On track to retire, Rhode Islander Mimi Blaine was thrown off-balance when she was terminated with no cause. Mimi started coping by crocheting, a skill she picked up as a little girl from her grandmother. Attacking a pile of incomplete projects—baskets, a baby carrier, prayer shawls, and several blankets—she made sense of it all, stitch by stitch. Looking to make a little fun money for her grandch
ildren, she crocheted 55 slouch hats in two weeks to see if the locals would be interested. While gifting a portion of these to women undergoing breast cancer treatments, Mimi realized the need to inject a little humor and heartfelt cheer. Lovingly spun from small batches, Mimi creates baby cocoons, blankets inspired by mermaids and sharks for boys and girls, slouch hats with positive messages hidden for the wearer to feel, and much more. Mimi is dedicated to donating whimsical fun crochet items to nonprofit organizations for raffling to help raise funds that benefit children.
