Basic Cottage Garden Recipe:
🌸Start with hydrangeas. This is a smooth hydrangea. It’s super easy and reliable.
🌸Add elements. I used a black metal bench that has aged over time. I love how the hydrangea grows between the slats of the bench. I also have a copper bird house stake and some aged clay pots. The trellises on either side of the bench add charm and interest year round.
🌸Add flowers you love. The vinca growing below the bench is a favorite of mine. Petunias, salvia, gaura, and vinca are all flowers I can’t resist. The drumstick allium is new for me and I’m here for it.
🌸Add charm. I placed a cute bunny in the garden and watched the flowers almost engulf him.

🌸 I don’t try to impress people with my flowers - instead let’s all treat everything like an experiment and enjoy the process of trying.

🌸 I don’t worry about my garden being perfect -we aren’t Martha Stewart and we don’t have to be. Let’s all relax and enjoy our gardens. Embrace the imperfections. (This isn’t math, right?)

🌸 I don’t focus on the flower that isn’t thriving and miss the one that is. Let’s not be too hard on ourselves or our gardens. This year let’s notice and celebrate the wins.

A secret to happiness I’ve found in day to day life is to not take myself too seriously. Laugh at my mistakes and give up trying to impress people. The same applies to the garden. You want to increase your happiness with your flower garden? Don’t take it too seriously. Give up trying to impress people. Abandon the need for perfection. Focus on the good and the beauty. Laugh at your mistakes.

Relax and enjoy the journey of growing flowers, even imperfect ones, with me this year! 🌸

BUT I CAN’T QUIT TALKING ABOUT CATERPILLARS! 🤭 So if you’re still here, you’re my people!!! 🥰 🦋

I have 2 more chrysalises left so stay tuned in stories for all that! Because I can’t quit talking about caterpillars (and butterflies!) 😄

And I can’t tell you how grateful I am for milkweed bouquets and butterfly enclosures! 🦋
