Let's discuss what shadow work is & isnt
Shadow work has become a popular term in spiritual and self development communities, but it is often misunderstood. At its core, shadow work is the process of exploring the parts of ourselves that we have hidden, rejected, suppressed, or denied. These parts of ourselves make up what psychologist Carl Jung referred to as the shadow. Your shadow isn't necessarily bad or negative.

It can include your unnhealed wounds, fears and insecurities, repressed emotions, limiting beliefs, traits you've been taught to reject, and hidden gifts, talents, and strengths. Many of these aspects develop as a result of childhood experiences, societal expectations, trauma, or situations where we learned that certain emotions or behaviors were unacceptable.

Shadow work IS taking an honest look at your patterns and behaviors, exploring emotional triggers and asking, "Why did this affect me so strongly?", examining beliefs you've carried throughout your life, taking responsibility for your healing and growth, learning to meet yourself with compassion instead of judgment, and integrating all parts of yoursel, not just the parts you like.

Shadow work is NOT constantly reliving your trauma, using spirituality to shame yourself, blaming others for your actions, digging for problems where none exist, becoming consumed by negativity, or a one-time healing process. One of the biggest misconceptions is that shadow work is about "fixing" yourself, but the truth is that shadow work isn't about becoming someone new. It's about understanding and accepting the parts of yourself you've been taught to hide.

Sometimes the shadow contains pain. Sometimes it contains anger. Sometimes it contains the confidence, creativity, voice, or power you've been afraid to express. The goal is not perfection. The goal is awareness, healing, and integration.

Think about a recent situation that triggered a strong emotional reaction in you. Instead of asking, "Why did they do that?" Try asking, "What part of me was affected so deeply by this, and what might it be trying to teach me?"

Intuition vs. Fear
How can you tell the difference?

This is one of the most common questions people ask on their spiritual journey.

"Is this my intuition speaking, or is it fear?"

At first, they can feel very similar as both can create strong feelings, both can influence our decisions, and both can try to get our attention. However, there are some key differences.

Intuition tends to be calm.
It often arrives as a quiet knowing, a gentle nudge, or a feeling that simply "clicks" into place. Intuition doesn't usually need to convince you or argue with you, it simply presents information.

Fear tends to be loud. Fear often feels urgent, repetitive, anxious, or overwhelming. It may create worst-case scenarios, endless "what if" questions, or a feeling that you must act immediately.

Intuition is neutral. Even when intuition warns us about something, it often feels clear and matter of fact rather than emotionally charged.

Fear is emotionally reactive. Fear often stems from past experiences, wounds, trauma, conditioning, or the desire to protect ourselves from perceived danger.

I invite you to try this simple exercise next time you are unsure if it is intuition or fear –

Ask yourself these questions:

Does this feeling feel calm or chaotic? Is this information repeating because I'm worried, or because I genuinely know something? Is this coming from a past wound, or from a place of inner knowing? If I removed all anxiety from the situation, what would I still know to be true?

It's important to remember that fear is not the enemy. Fear often exists to protect us. The goal isn't to eliminate fear, but to recognize when fear is speaking and when intuition is guiding.
The more we heal old wounds and become familiar with our emotional patterns, the easier it becomes to distinguish between the two.

Can you think of a time when you realized after the fact that it was your intuition speaking? Or a time when fear disguised itself as intuition?

Understanding the Inner Child
Many people have heard the term "inner child," but what does it actually mean?

Your inner child is the part of you that carries the emotions, experiences, beliefs, joys, fears, and wounds formed during childhood. It is the aspect of your psyche that remembers what it was like to be young and vulnerable.

When our emotional needs were not fully met as children, we often develop protective behaviors to help us cope. These behaviors can follow us into adulthood and they often influence our relationships, self-esteem, communication styles, fears, and even the way we respond to stress.

There are signs you can recognize within yourself that show that your inner child may be seeking healing. These signs include fear of rejection or abandonment, difficulty trusting others, people pleasing tendencies, strong emotional reactions to certain situations, feeling "not good enough" despite evidence to the contrary, difficulty setting healthy boundaries, and seeking validation from others.

The good news is that healing is possible. Inner child work involves learning to recognize these wounded parts of ourselves with compassion rather than judgment. It allows us to meet old wounds with understanding, love, and the emotional support we may not have received when we were younger.

One simple exercise is to ask yourself these important questions-
What did I need to hear as a child that I rarely heard?
What made me feel safe, loved, and accepted?
How can I provide some of that for myself today?

Remember that healing your inner child isn't about blaming the past. It's about understanding how your past has shaped you so that you can move forward with greater awareness and self compassion.
