Comfort and character can absolutely share the same room.

This week's mood board is all about creating a cozy study that feels collected, welcoming, and just a little unexpected.

While plaid is a staple of traditional interiors, scaling up the pattern and layering it with modern geometrics gives it a fresh, sophisticated energy. It's timeless—but with a little more confidence.

Best supporting role goes to the Weitzner magnetic wallcovering (bottom right). Beautifully textured, it doubles as a functional hanging surface—perfect for inspiration images, notes, or timelines without sacrificing style.

When every texture has a purpose and every pattern complements the next, the result is a room that's both elevated and effortlessly comfortable.

What if you could walk through your floor plan before construction even begins?

We recently visited .stl to experience new technology that allows designers and clients to virtually walk floor plans at true scale.

Seeing a floor plan on paper is one thing. Actually stepping into the space—and experiencing the proportions, sightlines, circulation and connection between rooms—is another.

At ALD, we’re always keeping an eye on the latest technology and tools that can make the design process more intuitive, collaborative and valuable for our clients. This is one more way to bring a design to life before the first wall is moved or cabinet is built.

Because the better you can understand a space before construction begins, the better you can make decisions about how it will ultimately live. Considering a remodel or building a home from the ground up? Contact us to start the conversation.

The marble debate seems to come down to one question:
Do you want your countertop to stay perfect—or get better with age?

Because yes, marble will stain.
Yes, it will scratch.
And yes, it will develop a patina.

Marble has been used for centuries. Think European villas, historic buildings, centuries-old sculptures. It wasn’t chosen because it would remain perfectly pristine. It was chosen because it’s beautiful—and because its character only gets better over time.

Leathered, honed, polished or sueded, there are different ways to experience the depth, movement and character of natural stone. There’s also something about natural stone that goes beyond how it looks – it evokes a feeling that simply can’t be replicated by a manufactured material.

So, should you choose marble? If you can embrace the imperfections, absolutely. But if the thought of a w**e ring, lemon etch, or scratch makes you cringe… maybe marble isn’t for you. And that’s ok.

At ALD, we listen to our clients, how they live and what matters to them—and make the material recommendation that’s right for you and your home.

Team Marble or Team No-Stains-Allowed? Tell us where you stand.
Personally, I love marble 😉

Our team recently visited the new Visual Comfort showroom for a little lighting education, a lot of inspiration, and plenty of time spent seeing these beautiful fixtures in person. 💡

There’s only so much you can learn from a spec sheet. Seeing how a fixture casts light, understanding its scale and materials, experiencing the finishes up close, and learning how each piece functions helps us make better, more intentional choices for our clients.

And, of course, there was no shortage of beautiful things to look at. From sculptural statement pieces to delicate, layered lighting, we left with plenty of ideas for projects on the boards. ✨

Because for us, the best part of design is never stopping learning, looking, and discovering.

The holidays may feel far away—but beautiful, thoughtfully designed spaces don’t happen overnight. Our process is designed to take your project from “What if we…” to a finished space you’ll love coming home to:

-Discovery → We learn how you live, what you love, and what isn’t working.
-Kickoff → We establish the vision, priorities, scope, and roadmap for your project.
-Design Development → Materials, finishes, furnishings, and details come together to create a cohesive design.
-Procurement → We manage the ordering, tracking, and coordination behind the scenes.
-Project Management → We keep all the moving pieces on track, coordinating details, vendors, trades, and timelines so you don’t have to.
-Install → The final layer: bringing it all together and transforming your house into your space.

If you’re dreaming of a refreshed space for the holidays, now is the time to start the conversation.

Design inspiration doesn’t always come from a showroom—or even from a current project.

While visiting the Rhode Island School of Design, Ash Leonard found plenty to photograph and file away for later: ornate ceilings, dramatic arched windows, incredible millwork, intricate parquet flooring, and the kind of unexpected color combinations that only get better with age.

This is part of what we love about design: keeping your eyes open. A detail spotted on a trip today might become the starting point for a room years from now.
Because inspiration is everywhere. You just have to notice it. ✨

Design Tip 💡

Lighting can make or break a dining room.

A few designer tips for getting it right:
1. Hang it at the right height. As a general rule, the bottom of a dining fixture should sit about 30–36" above the tabletop.
2. Size matters. Your fixture should feel substantial enough for the table without overwhelming the room. Select fixtures that measure ½ to ⅔ the width of your dining table.
3. Think about the table shape. A round fixture works beautifully over a round table, while linear fixtures complement rectangular tables.
4. Consider the view. You want the fixture to create atmosphere—not block conversation or your view across the table.
5. Layer the light. A statement chandelier is great, but sconces, lamps, or accent lighting can add warmth and dimension.

This week's mood board is a study in welcoming sophistication—pairing a dramatic floral wallpaper with layered mauves, soft sage, warm brass, and tactile textures to create a guest retreat that feels both refined and restorative. A tailored stripe adds movement, while plush textiles invite guests to settle in and stay awhile.

Because the most memorable spaces aren't just beautiful—they make people feel at home.

Behind every beautiful space is a tape measure.

Interior design isn't always glamorous. Sometimes it's double-checking hardware placement down to the fraction of an inch, coordinating with trades, and making sure every detail is installed exactly as intended.

The difference between a good project and an exceptional one is often the work you never see. We believe great design is equal parts creativity, precision, and project management—guiding every decision from the first drawing to the final installation.

If you're planning a renovation or new build and want a team that manages every detail from concept to completion, let's talk. Schedule a consultation with Ash Leonard Design and discover how thoughtful planning creates exceptional results.
