I’m an avid marketplace girlie so my algorithm is LOCKED in . But if yours isn’t, here’s how to get it working for you:
First rule: when you find something you like — even if you’re not buying it — like it or save it. That little bit of feedback tells the algorithm, “more of this please,” and starts tailoring your feed to similar gems.
Next: get clear on your style. I know, labels can feel cringe — but on Facebook you have to be super direct to get to the good stuff. Are you traditional? Mid-century modern? Farmhouse? Start broad, then drill down into the details and characteristics of the exact piece you want.
Some nitty-gritty search terms that hit:
• grandma or grandmothers - as in “this was my grandmother’s” – these pieces are almost always in the best condition.
• must go
• funky
• vintage
• old
• SOLID (yes in all caps)
• heavy
And don’t stop at “wood sideboard.” Be specific. Try “walnut sideboard,” “white oak sideboard,” or “cherry cabinet.” Sometimes the more exact you are, the better the finds. Full disclosure, though – if someone knows the type of wood their piece is made with, it’ll oftentimes be reflected in the price tag.
Also — switch up your wording. Looking for an armchair? Try “upholstered chair,” “lounge chair,” or even “comfortable chair.” Think about all the ways someone else might describe it.
