Every color in this room came from right outside our window. We started where we always do on LBI, looking at the landscape. This is how I design! Pulling from the island we all love!

The soft blue? That's the bay at midmorning. The grey shades? Weathered shingles. The rich wood tones? Inspired by old dock planks. Creamy white accents? The bleached driftwood and shells on our sandy beaches. A lot of the decor is pulled from local antique shops and our own adventures on the island.

This stunning oceanfront home was a restyling in Long Beach, focused on enhancing what already made this home unforgettable: the view. ⁠ ⁠

New furniture, rugs, dining chandelier, and accessories were chosen to frame and elevate the home's natural beauty. The custom millwork and existing finishes set the tone, and every detail was layered in to complement that natural richness while keeping the space light, calm, and connected.

How do you make a small space feel large? Here's my designer secret! ✨If your home is anything like mine, there are always a few spaces you wish felt just a little bigger. Here are the things I focus on when I’m trying to open a room up.⁠

Keep the palette cohesive. Light colors can help, but it’s really about creating a space that feels intentional. Even bold wallpaper can work beautifully when everything ties together.⁠

Make the most of natural light. I always think about how light moves through a space. Mirrors and layered lighting can make such a difference.⁠
⁠
Be mindful of furniture. Scale of furniture is critical in smaller spaces to keep a light and airy feel. I lean toward more streamlined shapes and exposed legs to keep things feeling open and airy.

A look at the Surf City Bayside. This Surf City home is close to my house, because it's my own home! As with most of our homes, our house is always undergoing slight changes as we tweak fabric, find new decorative treasures, and swap out furniture to work better for our family's day-to-day needs. ⁠

One of the questions I get all the time is where to invest, and where you can save. The truth is, a well-designed space is all about balance!⁠
⁠
There are a few things I always recommend investing in. Upholstery you use every day should feel as good as it looks and hold up over time. Lighting completely sets the mood and affects how a space functions.⁠ And custom built-ins can transform a room.⁠
⁠
On the flip side, I love mixing in budget-friendly pieces. Decorative accents are some of my favorite things to source from local antique shops or even pieces you already have tucked away. And for furniture that doesn’t get a lot of daily use, it’s a great place to have a little fun and experiment.

A room's walls can completely transform a space, making them the perfect first thing to design for a room refresh. There’s nothing better than installing custom millwork, picking the perfect color for the space or hanging wallpaper that adds texture and warmth.
