Last summer, during our remodel, I had the privilege of visiting the home of Northwest artist Susan Singleton. I’ll never forget it.

Susan’s gracious way of being made a deep impression on me. Moving seamlessly between her Orcas Island studio and home, she created spaces I found profoundly refreshing. She lives and works surrounded by what she finds meaningful and inspiring. The textures, shapes, colors, natural light, and soothing simplicity— so good, so simple, and so very personal. I’m forever grateful for this gift!

Ever struggled with styling surfaces using random items you already own?

Putting odd and unexpected things together in a dynamic way is a serious challenge. We recently did just that at a beach house outside Olympia owned by . Together with , we played with color, texture, form, scale, balance– you know, all the things. Her experience as an artist brought fresh creativity to our goals, often thinking way outside the box (at least my box).

One of my learnings?
Never underestimate the power of a friendly blowfish. He may look silly in one location, but can most certainly steal the show in another!

Not gonna lie. This phase was the toughest for me. Very unnerving to live through. The promise ahead kept my hopes high while living through the noise, mess and chaos.
