With another round of rain and storms moving through the area, now is a good time to keep an eye on your floors and carpets. If water finds its way into your home, acting quickly can make all the difference in preventing long-term damage.

What to do if your basement carpet gets wet from flooding:
If you have water on your carpet get it out as quick as you can.
Glue-Down Carpet & Loose Lay with No Pad
Remove as much water from the carpet as possible. Use a shop-vac and make slow thorough passes over the affected areas. When there is no more water coming up with the shop-vac, you'll want to start drying out the room as much as possible. Circulate the air in the room with fans, open windows if it's dry out, and place dehumidifiers if you have them.

Carpet with Pad
Pull your carpet up at the corners, you may need to use pliers to get it off the tack strip. Be careful not to damage the carpet if you want it reinstalled. Once lifted, remove and dispose of the wet pad, then lay the carpet back down to start drying it out. Make slow, through passes over the carpet with a shop-vac. When there is no more water coming up with the shop-vac, you'll want to start drying out the room as much as possible. Circulate the air in the room with fans, open windows if it's dry out, and place dehumidifiers if you have them.
