What is Shou Sugi Ban Wood? Japanese used this technique to preserve the wood used often for building from weather and insects. This style of wood is typically colorless, I have decided to add color to this technique as it produces beautiful results beyond the natural beauty of the wood. Basically this means before any paint or stain is applied to the wood, the wood is deeply burned, and then the char is removed. Due to this unique process, no two boards turn out the same. Each product is unique, and no pieces are the same. Even if the same wood, and paint/stain are used, from the same cut of lumber products will still all be different due to variation in the wood.
