CERAMIC COTTAGE: THE PASSING OF CERAMIC COTTAGE'S OWNER

Ann Milligan, who inherited Ceramic Cottage (CerCot) from her mother Thelmarie Guinn in 2014, abruptly passed away at age 69 between 2:00 PM and 7:15 PM today (Saturday, March 14, 2026). Her health had declined steadily following a series of strokes in late 2020.

Those interested should monitor social media for related future announcements.

CERAMIC COTTAGE: CHESAPEAKE BISQUE PRICE INCREASE AND SPECIAL MAYCO ORDER

Please view the Ceramic Cottage (CerCot) post from July 3, 2025 when I announced a 20% minimum price decrease for all Chesapeake bisque. That decrease had resulted from our becoming a Chesapeake distributor. Unfortunately within the last month or so Chesapeake has increased the prices we pay and, given that some of the increases are as high as 40%, we must regretfully pass the increases on to our customers. I apologize for this somewhat belated announcement but at least - unlike AT&T and Cox Cable - I am attempting to NOT surprise customers with an abrupt increase in their bill with no explanation.

====> Speaking of Cox, my home internet bill recently increased from $49.99 to $79.99 - about 60%! I suspect that several of our customers experienced a similar increase. Here is a tip: if you call their customer service number at 800-234-3993 and threaten to switch your internet service to T-Mobil (lowest price about $55) or AT&T you stand a good chance of negotiating your Cox bill down to below $65.

====> We recently significantly replenished our Mayco glaze stock. However, since then we've had a small special order from a customer who wants the order regardless of freight cost. For those of you who would also put in a special order here's a good opportunity to obtain a reduction in your freight cost. You can order any glaze you like. The freight will be charged at actual cost and pro-rated on the relative percentages of the cost paid for the glaze. For example, if one customer buys $30 of Mayco glaze and a second buys $70 of Mayco glaze and the total freight bill is $60 for the two orders, then the first customer pays a freight cost of 30/100 x 60 = $18 and the second pays a freight cost of 70/100 = $42. Those wishing to take advantage of this arrangement need to email their orders to [email protected] by no later than 12:01 AM Tuesday, March 17.

CERAMIC COTTAGE: WE HAVE RECEIVED SEVERAL SHIPMENTS OF SUPPLIES

Several orders have arrived at Ceramic Cottage (CerCot) and we again have a well topped-off inventory, including

- A glaze order from Mayco, received February 5.

- A clay order from Trinity, received February 18.

- A bisque order from our commercial out-of-state bisque supplier, received February 18.

Tomorrow we will receive a greenware order from our local supplier, which Barry will begin firing to bisque.

And Barry has made *** yet another *** (less than a week ago) purchase of molds that he is pouring for CerCot. These will include some Halloween pieces that Barry thinks will be well received by our customers. We hope to post photos of those soon, along with photos of samples and bisque examples made from his prior mold purchase.

Lastly, we just placed an order for Kemper tools and brushes.

CERAMIC COTTAGE: WE MAY CLOSE SATURDAY JANUARY 24 2026 DUE TO WEATHER

The current weather forecast for Saturday January 24, 2026 calls for snow for most of the day. If that indeed comes to pass, there is a good chance that Barry will not open Ceramic Cottage (CerCot). Accordingly, our customers are advised to call him at 918-584-1580 on Saturday before traveling to CerCot so that they can determine whether or not the shop is open. If the telephone isn't answered then CerCot is closed. There should be a closure notice on the entry door as well.

====> We presently DO plan to be open today (Friday, January 23). Given that the impending "deep freeze" could extend into next week, keeping the roads snowbound and difficult to traverse, we could close for a few days then as well. So today may be your last opportunity to acquire supplies at CerCot for some time.

Barry and I discussed the impending winter storm during the late afternoon of Thursday, January 22. About three hours later, during their evening TV news broadcast, I watched a Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) News meteorologist forecast the possibility of 12-18 inches of snow for Tulsa over the weekend, with temperatures dropping to near zero.

Dear customers, that kind of weather can obviously take down power lines, endangering those who rely on electricity for heat. Hopefully you have made contingency plans should you lose the ability to heat your home and have additionally laid in an adequate supply of food if you become unable to make trips to a grocery store. The impending situation should NOT be taken "with a grain of salt."

On a happier note, over the last 10 days Barry acquired a few hundred vintage molds and has begun pouring them and firing them to bisque. Thus after a few weeks we should have a fair supply of bisque pieces that many of you have never seen. And today (Friday January 23) we are scheduled to receive an order of greenware from our regular local source. About two thirds of that delivery will include pieces that our customers have ordered.

Finally, within the next few days we will place a Mayco glaze order that will re-fill CerCot's shelves. We will likely place a clay order as well.
