It will be on display at the Ella Sharp Museum in Jackson, Michigan running June 20th through August 5th. Yaahoo!😁 Awards will be announced later.

At the end of the day yesterday I added the furthest point in the vista. I was amazed how it pulled it all together, increasing the depth, giving the focal point and unifying the two sides of the composition, the river banks.

Today, big changes with adding the sky and water. Traditionally, these would have been added along with the rest of it, but I didn’t want paint all over myself. 😊

After days of working it slowly evolves. This is one of the most difficult paintings I’ve done in a long time. You might be surprised because it seems so simple. As I said previously, it’s the subtlies. Color and value must be right or it will not carry the feeling of the moment Im seeking to capture. Because of this I have made numerous changes as I go.

The most challenging part of a painting is at this point. It’s all giving and no receiving back from the art. Later it will talk to me. At this point it can feel questionable where it’s going; however Ive done it enough to stay positive that it works out in the end.

Now here’s something most will not find interesting, but for the few of you who do.

In preparation for beginning to paint the piece I posted previously, I needed to work out my color palette. It’s about limiting my colors which give harmony to the piece. At the same time I don’t want to just paint the trees green and the sky/water blue. Having worked this out cognitively I can now dive in intuitively. So what do you think/feel about all that?

Unless you’re an artist, few would realize how intimidating this piece could be.So simple yet I saw all the subtleties that could make or break it. It could be fabulous or boring. The concentration is challenging after all my life experiences of late. In edition realize it is five feet across.

On the theme of Venice, I would like to share with you another Venetian watercolor from the 90s. In my heart, I must be escaping to Italy.

You may find it interesting that while I was doing part of this piece I wasn’t happy with it. So, I took it into the shower and washed it off! It helped give characterto what I was working on, ironically.

As I worked on the watercolor of Venice (previously posted) I felt as if Annie was with me, as we experienced the moment I was paining together. I was so grateful we were able to go back, as seen here, before she passed.
