How fitting that today is International Crow & Raven Appreciation Day! 🖤🐦⬛
I celebrate these corvids every day by feeding the neighborhood murder (crows).
Every time I hear a crow cawing, it brings a smile to my face and a feeling of peace in my soul. They are my spirit animal!
Don't know much about them? Here are a few characteristics you may find interesting:
🖤 They use tools (like sticks) to retrieve food if needed.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🖤 They can recognize specific human faces in a crowd (for up to 2 years after first seeing them).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🖤 They mourn the death of their own by gathering around them and making noises.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🖤 They are always observing and learning. They are known to memorize garbage truck routes to learn the best time to find tasty food.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🖤 They learn from another crow/raven's misfortune. If one is killed in a field, they will change their flight patterns to avoid that field. If one is attacked and survives, it will go back to the pack (murder) and tell the others about it to avoid that area in the future.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🖤 They will bring you gifts/trinkets for feeding them regularly (once they trust you). I have a murder of 5 I feed every single day, and I cannot wait to receive my gift(s) from them! 😍
