Selected to be an Emerging Artist at the 2026 Gasparilla Festival of the Arts

Becky Wanamaker has been an artist all of her life. From the time she could pick up a crayon, she was driven to draw, paint & design. Wanamaker is a graphic designer by training and started painting as a creative outlet in the fall of 2015. Wanamaker experimented with Alcohol Inks on paper which lead to painting with the inks on glass. By the end of 2015 she had sold a large number of upcycled gla

ss & metal vases & trays. She also started painting large glass Christmas ornaments. Before she knew it, Wanamaker had orders for her unique hand painted ornaments coming in faster than she could handle. In November, 2015, Wanamaker was invited to show her work at The Gallery @ 14 Days. Inspired by the other artists in the gallery, she decided to purse abstract painting. Her journey lead her to experimenting with fluid painting and painting with resin. Wanamaker coined the term "Fluid Abstraction". Her painting technique incorporates acrylic & oil paints, pigments, alcohol & india inks, resin and sometimes even fire. Wanamaker uses techniques learned from other artists as well as those she has developed through much trial and error along the way. She keeps a detailed journal for each painting she creates, notating the mediums used, what combination they were used in and the specific techniques so that she can continue to grow as an artist and improve her techniques. Wanamaker uses these techniques and mediums to create statement pieces on wood canvas, glass & furniture. Her affinity for color and experience as a graphic designer combined with her unique style of painting results in one-of-a-kind statement pieces. She is currently accepting commissions for large and small paintings for the upcoming holiday season. She will also be offering her hand painted ornaments again this year, so stay tuned!!

Imagine my surprise and delight when I saw walking my way. I think she was just as surprised! We met in January 2025 at the Michael’s Murphy Gallery’s Banksy event while waiting in line for the restroom.

As we were chatting she asked if I was one of the artists with work in the gallery. I replied that I wasn’t, but was an emerging artist (like just cracking the cocoon emerging).

Gemini doesn’t know it, but that one question was the catalyst that started this new chapter. She saw something in me that I thought nobody noticed….that I was an artist!

I decided to put my head down and focus on refining my artistic voice and to apply for local shows and events. Fast forward a year and one week later, I’m truly an emerging artist bursting out of that cocoon and preparing to take flight, and Gemini was there to see it!

I’ve received many positive comments about this new collage.

Then, I saw this one: “It’s grade school”

This particular comment stands out among all of the positive posts. Although the commenter most likely intended for it to be an insult, I view it as praise. Some of the best art has a childlike quality, so if that’s the case here, I’ll proudly own it. I hope that my work will always be vibrant, colorful and unpretentious. I hope that my inner child will continue to shine through on my art.
