Hey everyone! I would like to introduce or reintroduce myself to you! As many of you know, my business has taken a few sharp turns and made some drastic changes and this is just me on my way to rebranding what I've built. Today seems appropriate- as yesterday marks 1 year already since I lost my original store front.
I started Flipping Quarters in 2020 during the pandemic. Crazy right? I started it because I LOVE old things! I constantly see and hear about people taking 'old junk' to the dump and breaks my heart! Not only is that unnecessary waste for the environment, its throwing away history! Its throwing away things that were built and made in a different time then now where it was built and made to last. Unlike today, stuff is made cheap, doesnt last, yet somehow still costs a fortune. I was also blessed with a very vivid imagination and the ability to see things for what they COULD be if redesigned or repurposed which is where my love of old cool beat up furniture comes into play. I grew up in a household where money was always tight and we never had much, everything I had was ALWAYS second hand and never new. I found a way to live within my means by using my creativity to make it NEW to me! My philosophy was and still is- its WAY cheaper to buy a little can of paint then to buy a new piece of furniture!
When I started getting into estate cleanouts, a whole new desire to do what I love came to me when meeting with a few elderly folks who were leaving the farm and drastically downsizing. Their kids stressing out, overwhelmed and demanding to know why they kept so much old JUNK! I could see the pain in their eyes. They LOVED their stuff! They worked hard for everything they had and took such good care of it! This JUNK was their life! Their memories! Their achievements to working hard! And I could see that the thought of it going in the trash was PAINFUL and SAD. It was truly SO rewarding to be able to come in and tell them that I LOVED everything and would take EVERYTHING and do my absolute best to find it a new home whether to donate, recycle, GIVE AWAY, repurpose or resell it. I was able to reassure them that not much would go in the trash. THAT made them so happy! THAT is why I love what I do!
Iv had my fair share of struggles. Personal struggles that were made public knowledge, making the shame and embarrassment 10x worse and it really affected my business. Today im choosing to not let any of that define who I am. And who I am is an honest, hardworking, creative and VERY caring person who is on a journey to be successful in doing what I love. Using my imagination to transform discarded things into something beautiful again and taking things that nobody seems to care about and putting into the hands of somebody who cares very much for it. Its all sort of symbolic to how I sometimes feel about myself I suppose. Anyway, if you took the time to read ALL of this- THANK YOU! I plan to keep you all consistently up to date on the changes im making with Flipping Quarters and just wanted to share a little bit about the background of this business and why its so important to me. Im working very hard to roll with the punches, change WITH the changes, and never give up on my dreams and my goals, but more importantly, the promises I made to those people by finding their items a new home.
Id like to hear from some of you! What drives you and gives you purpose? What is your passion and where does it come from? Or does anybody maybe have any questions I can answer?
