Before vs. After

See what I did here? Someone was creative years ago when they designed the home with the traditional multiple dining areas - breakfast room, island and formal dining room.

I'm seeing less and less people needing and wanting 3 separate areas and wanting more of one larger area that they can entertain and host holidays where people aren't in different rooms.

It's "National Dog Day". Let's not forget our pets when designing the home. Materials made for easy cleaning are ideal along with materials that are less likely to fray or get snagged are important.

Sometimes I'm hired and the space actually functions fine, yet it's lacking that extra personality.

Without doing a crazy expensive overhaul, we maintained the existing cabinets, flooring, shower tile and then added dimension and detail.

- Accent tile behind the sink
- New faucets/sinks/countertop/hardware
- New mirrors & lights
- Add a window valance and rug

Sometimes it's more simple things that make the difference.

The “Sit Test” might be the most underrated test when choosing a toilet. 🚽✨

When my grandma needed a new toilet, I insisted we do something that felt a little silly at first…

We tried them all.

Much like Cinderella searching for the perfect fit, we had to find the one that was just right.

Because here’s something many people don’t realize: even toilets labeled as “comfort height” or “right height” can vary by an inch or more. And when you’re talking about something you use every single day, those small differences can make a big impact.

As we age, toilet height becomes even more important. A toilet that is too low can make standing up difficult, while one that is too high may leave shorter individuals feeling uncomfortable or unsupported.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer.

For someone with a smaller stature, a lower toilet may actually be the better choice. For someone with mobility challenges, a taller option might provide the support they need.

The best choice isn’t always the trendiest one or the one with the most popular label…

It’s the one that fits your body.

One of the things I always recommend? Order the rug sample first.

Especially when you're investing in a large area rug.

Photos online can be deceiving. Colors shift from screen to screen, lighting changes everything, and a rug that looked "perfect" online can feel completely different once it's in your home. A small sample gives us the confidence to make the right decision before committing to a major purchase.

It's also a reminder that great design doesn't happen overnight.

A thoughtfully designed home isn't created with one click or by adding everything to a shopping cart. It's a process.

Some selections have to wait until we've developed the overall design. We need to see how materials, finishes, lighting, fabrics, and colors work together before making those final decisions.

And then comes the waiting...

Quality furniture and custom pieces often take weeks—or even months—to arrive. While that can be hard in a world of next-day delivery, it's worth it to create a home that feels intentional rather than rushed.

Every project I design is handcrafted alongside my clients. It's a collaborative process where every finish, fabric, and furnishing is chosen with purpose to create a home that reflects their lifestyle, their personality, and the way they want to feel in their space.

Because truly custom design isn't about how fast you can finish a room—it's about creating a home you'll love for years to come.

Bring on the cozy, moody spaces! Wood and earth tones are back. Darker and richer colors are in as are more traditional art pieces like landscapes framed in more elaborate gold leaf or decorative frames.

There are no rules... buy what you love! After years of cool grays and stark white interiors, we're seeing a beautiful shift back to warmth. Rich wood tones, earthy colors, layered textures, and timeless details are making homes feel inviting again.

I'm especially loving the return of classic artwork—think beautiful landscapes, still lifes, and vintage-inspired pieces displayed in ornate gold leaf or decorative frames. They add so much depth, character, and soul to a space.

The best part?

There are no rules.

Your home shouldn't look like everyone else's. Trends come and go, but the pieces you truly love will always feel right. Mix old with new. Hang the art that makes you smile. Choose the warm wood over the trendy finish if that's what speaks to you.

Designing a home you love will never go out of style.

We spend so much time thinking about how our homes look... but how often do we think about how they feel?

A beautiful mudroom is a great start, but don't overlook one of the hardest-working spaces in your home: the laundry room.

Laundry isn't going away. But the way your space functions can make the process feel either overwhelming or effortless.

When I design laundry rooms, I think beyond cabinets and countertops. I ask questions like:
✨ Where do dirty clothes naturally pile up?
✨ Is there a place to fold?
✨ Where do clean clothes wait before they're put away?
✨ Can everyday supplies be tucked out of sight but still be easy to reach?

Thoughtful storage isn't just about staying organized—it's about creating a sense of calm.

Imagine coming home after a long, nonstop day.

One home greets you with piles of laundry, overflowing baskets, and visual clutter demanding your attention before you've even had a chance to breathe.

The other welcomes you with a space where everything has a place. The clutter is hidden. The visual noise is gone. Your home feels peaceful instead of demanding.

That's the power of intentional design.

Our homes have a direct impact on our mental load. When we reduce visual clutter and create systems that support the way our families actually live, we're not just organizing a room—we're creating more peace in our everyday lives.

What's one thing in your laundry room that drives you crazy? I'd love to hear it in the comments. 👇

Back-to-school season is almost here... and if your entryway turns into a mountain of backpacks, shoes, lunchboxes, and sports gear, you're not alone. 🎒👟

One of the smartest investments you can make isn't buying more storage bins—it's creating a space that's intentionally designed for the way your family actually lives.

A thoughtfully planned mudroom gives every backpack, pair of shoes, jacket, and piece of gear a designated home. When kids know exactly where things belong, mornings become less chaotic, afternoons feel calmer, and clutter doesn't take over your home.

Great design isn't just about making a space look beautiful—it's about making everyday life easier.

If you could wave a magic wand and add one feature to your mudroom, what would it be? 👇

When I design a space, I'm not just thinking about what it will look like on reveal day. I'm thinking about how it will work every single day after that.

In this lower level, every decision had a purpose:
⚾ A dedicated kids' zone that gives little ones a place to create, play, and make memories.
📚 Storage that's actually functional, so toys, games, and books have a home.
🛋️ A comfortable media area where the whole family can gather for movie nights or game days.
🥤 A console behind the sofa that doubles as extra seating for snacks, homework, or cheering on your favorite team.
🎨 Materials and finishes that feel elevated while standing up to real family life.

The goal wasn't to squeeze as much furniture into the room as possible—it was to create spaces that support the way this family actually lives.

Good design isn't about filling a room.
It's about giving every square foot a job.

Because when your home is designed with intention, it feels easier to live in. The clutter has somewhere to go. Everyone has a place to be. And the room naturally brings people together.

What's one feature your dream family room would have? A game table? Built-in storage? A cozy movie lounge? Tell me below! 👇
