Permit Set:
The minimum drawings required for the CITY to
approve your project. Shows WHAT you’re building
and that it meets code.

Construction Drawings:
The detailed instructions your CONTRACTOR uses to
actually build it. Shows HOW to build every detail —
measurements, connections, finishes.

Why it matters:
Some contractors build off the permit set alone —
which lacks the detail needed for quality work.
This leads to guesswork, mistakes, and change orders.

01 — Bigger Windows
Extending window size or adding a second window
makes the biggest impact.

02 — Sliding Glass Doors
Replacing a solid exterior door with glass
doubles your light source.

03 — Skylights
For interior rooms without exterior walls,
skylights bring in light from above.

04 — Open Floor Plans
Removing non-structural walls lets light travel
further into the home.

05 — Light-Colored Finishes
Light floors, walls, and ceilings reflect light
instead of absorbing it — brightening a room
without adding a single window.

One thing to know:
Most of these need a permit. Enlarging windows,
adding skylights, and removing walls all require
permits and structural review.
