Having just driven through town making my morning deliveries, it was heartwarming to see all the flags at half mast today (well, almost all...there is at least one business that needs to catch up with the rest of the world). It was difficult not to get choked up and watery eyes.

Am I a country music fan? Definitely not. Did I listen to Dolly's music? Only those crossover pop hits like 9 to 5 or Islands in the Stream. But there's no denying that she was possibly the best human on this planet. If more people were like Dolly, the world would be a better place.

As you drive around town this week, notice the flags honoring this wonderful soul. Every time I see one, I tell myself..."Be more like Dolly". Let's all do that.

The area that my shop services is quite extensive and yesterday's and today's morning delivery runs prove that.

Yesterday morning, I had 3 deliveries spread from past the Kia plant to the Backwaters area. My total driving distance round trip was 44.5 miles. I just returned from this morning's run...another 35 miles. So in two delivery runs with 6 stops, I totaled nearly 80 miles and over 2 hours of delivery time.

I deliver to all addresses in Valley, Lanett, Cusseta, and West Point (some extreme rural addresses are serviced on a limited basis).

While the price of gas has been high for months now, I have not increased my delivery fees one cent. We're all hurting in our pocketbooks and wallets and I'm doing my best to keep prices reasonable and affordable.

Here in this small town right here on the border between AL and GA, it has been difficult to get reputable and reliable flower suppliers to maintain a delivery route into this area. We are a small town with very few flower shops (there are only 3 of us left...we used to have eight or more back in the 70's, 80's, and 90's), so the likelihood of a floral supplier adding us into their route is highly doubtful.

I am very fortunate that my shop is serviced by the largest flower wholesaler in the country...Delaware Valley Floral Group. They operate a hub in the metro Atlanta area and deliver to me twice a week. Trust me...if you need something special and they don't have it, it can't be found. Smaller flower suppliers that are much closer to here don't carry 1/10th of what DV carries and offers to me daily.

I can't begin to name all of the suppliers that we once had that chose to end their services into this area. But now, my shop is the only shop in town that is a customer of Delaware Valley. With that alliance, I am able to provide the area with a greater variety of fresh flowers and foliage than ever before.

Whew! It sure is hot outside this week! If you need a place to cool down, my walk in flower cooler stays at 39 degrees. Feel free to drop by and chill out...but please note, I have a cover charge...you must make a purchase or I won't let you out. LOL 😉

Here's a little funeral etiquette for you...

It is customary for us to include the sender's mailing address on the back of all sympathy cards. I am often asked why that is needed, and some customers request that their address not be included. Here is some useful information:

* This information is provided to the deceased's family so they have the correct address handy when composing thank you notes, eliminating the need for them to have to search for your address.

* Including your address ensures your thoughtful gesture can be properly acknowledged by the family. It is another show of respect to the family that can make the grieving process less difficult.

* Your address is not visible while the flower is on display...it is on the back of the card, but can be viewed by the family once the card is removed by the funeral director and given to the them.

My shop includes ALL addresses on sympathy cards unless otherwise requested, and in those situations, we do our best to explain the need for the address, but sometimes we are unsuccessful.

And yes...it is proper and customary to include the mailing addresses for extended family members. I've had people explain that they are the deceased's cousin, so "they'll know my address". I don't argue, but I do wonder...I can't tell you any of my cousin's addresses...can you?

Please allow us to make the difficult days after the passing of a loved one easier on the family...let us include your address on the card. I know the grieving family will greatly appreciate it.
