Not every piece of furniture is worth saving, not every finish needs to be stripped, and sometimes a little paint is exactly what a piece needs! 🙌

As a furniture refinisher, I believe in choosing the right approach for each piece instead of following a bunch of rules. What matters most? Giving furniture a second life! ♻️✨

I’ve never understood why furniture refinishers feel the need to put down those who paint furniture.

Restoration and painting are two different approaches, and there’s room for both in this industry! Some people love the natural beauty of wood and want to preserve it, while others love the transformation that a fresh coat of paint can bring to a piece.

And guess what? There’s a market for both!

Not every piece of furniture is a good candidate for restoration, and not every piece needs to be painted. Sometimes the best thing you can do is restore the original wood, and other times paint is exactly what a piece needs to give it a second life.

At the end of the day, we’re all giving furniture a new purpose and keeping pieces out of landfills. Why can’t we appreciate both approaches instead of tearing each other down?

There’s room for all of us at the table. We don’t have to choose sides to succeed. 🤎

One thing I’ve learned from refinishing furniture is that sometimes you have to look beyond the finish and rethink the design itself.

This piece originally sat much closer to the ground, which gave it a very mid-century modern look. But I wanted to make it a little more versatile.

I also know that a lot of people prefer furniture with enough clearance underneath to clean, rather than having it sit flush against the floor.

So instead of keeping the original base, I decided to build a new one.

The added height gives it a completely different look. It still has that mid-century influence, but now I can see it working in a more traditional or contemporary home, too.

Sometimes a furniture makeover requires more than a fresh coat of paint! 🌿

I replaced the original base on these nightstands to give them a little more height, make cleaning underneath easier, and create a look that works with more than just mid century modern interiors. It’s amazing how one design change can completely transform a piece!

Some pieces of furniture are worth so much more than their price tag. 🤎

This Danish Mid-Century Modern dining set came to me from Doña Marta, my best friend’s mom, and with it came years of memories.

Now, after traveling across the country with us, it’s getting a new chapter here in California. 🥹

I’m so happy I chose to restore this set for my own family! ❤️
