It took two days, enduring two cake fails (seriously), 228 texts (I counted) with Gail , behold the Copycat Tom Cruise White Chocolate Coconut Cake. It was delicious. Pies are easier.

It’s that time again

What to feed fellow tomato canners. Tomato pie (or galette) on repeat until frost. Roll out one pie dough, schmear with Dijon, scatter with 4 oz grated Gruyère, sliced tomatoes. Pleat the dough around the filling. Egg wash, salt and pepper. Bake at 400F for 40 minutes on a pizza stone or steel. Cool at least an hour before eating. Alternatively, schmear with Mayo, scatter grated sharp cheddar and some sliced scallions, add sliced tomatoes, pleat, egg wash, bake. It’s easy breezy summer food. 🍅

All the time, I ask myself if Facebook is terrible. And then I have a birthday and Facebook is definitely a wonderful thing — today I’ve heard from friends I’ve known for decades. High school, college, first job, my friends’ children, former staffers, long time long term friends and recent, treasured friends. I thank you all for your generous and happy messages that filled my feed. My heart is full. Love to you.
