“It’s just flowers.” ;)

If that’s true then a wedding dress is just fabric, a venue is just beams and concrete, vows are just words and dinner is just a pile of groceries 😅

These flowers require design, mechanics, composition, sourcing, and a whole lot of problem solving before they become anything close to what you actually want. The flowers are the materials. What we do with them is the art.

Guess what? Not every vision works in every venue (I know, right?!) Sometimes, the best design comes from knowing what to shift, what to focus on, and where to pivot.

That’s where our site visits come in. A walkthrough helps our team see how the guests will move in the space, where the lighting hits best, and what areas we will want to make our “moments”.

The end goal isn’t to force a design into a space. It’s to work with what’s there, find the opportunities, and make the entire space feel intentional.

Every small business owner has a season (or several) where they try to do it all themselves.

Design, Sell, AND Execute.
Answer all the emails.
Fix the cooler leak.
Unload the 20-foot ladder. At 1am. In the rain.
Post on Instagram, TikTok, FB, and the blog.

Organize, restock, and keep track of every ziptie ever made.

I’ll be honest, that season sucks!

The more Femme grows, the more I understand that filling the studio with the right people is not an expense, it’s an asset. Everything that leaves our design tables is touched 100x by these wonderful hands, and that’s our signature move.

Building the team IS building the business….and I’m very protective of who gets to be part of ours :)

One of the best things a client can say to us is, “You really just got the vision.”
You don’t have to come to us with a fully formed theme, 4 different Pinterest boards, and an army of screenshots. Actually, love you, but please don’t. 😂
More often than not, you just need to know how you want it to feel, maybe your ideal color palette, and that’s enough to get us going. How?? Well, we ask THE RIGHT questions and listen to your STORY. Then we really get into our feels and what emerges is a design proposal that looks and feels like what you were envisioning. Is it perfect from the very beginning? No, but it’s pretty damn close ;)

Oh, we make pretty things. But sometimes creating those pretty things involves a drill, a steamer, 200 yards of stubborn drape, and a team that has developed a very questionable sense of humor.

There’s the glamorous side of Femme, and then there’s loading vans, crawling around on the floor, fixing things that absolutely did NOT go according to plan, and then making it home in time to hear about every very important thing my 5-year-old did at school that day ♥️

The finished art is the part you see. But the artistry? The artistry is in the chaos, creativity, teamwork, and occasional nonsense behind the scenes. And honestly, being amazing at both is why our clients choose Femme.

When the groom is a watercolor artist, the inspiration is clear.

For Emily + Zack, his paintings became part of the visual language for the floral design.

We pulled from the movement, color and feeling of his work rather than trying to recreate it literally.
Inspiration can come from anywhere, not just your pinterest board.

I think of myself as a designer who happens to work with flowers.

Flowers are like living sculptures. They have movement, shape, color, texture and personality and they behave differently every time we work with them.

We’re not working with static material. We’re responding to something that is already alive and when you add fabric, structure, lighting, architecture and the guest experience into the mix, the work becomes much bigger than the flowers.

That’s the part of Femme I want people to understand: we specialize in transforming environments, not building arrangements.

Plot twist: I’m not really a florist

Sure, we use flowers, but we don’t start with the flowers.

We start with the space, the feeling, and the story. Then we build from there.

Flowers might be the medium. Draping might be the medium. Color, fabric, structure, negative space, light, texture, all of it becomes part of the design.

Anyone can fill a room with flowers, but it takes a design centered artist to make them feel like they always belonged there.

Flowers, but make it art.
