Boy it’s been a minute! I haven’t posted anything since early December at my last show, and trust me: I’ve been meaning to. I was a little burned out from making something everyday for a month straight that I just wanted a break, and then the Hoffman Handmades family started prepping for our son to get here, and I kind of lost track of time, so sorry about that.

Now on to business! I’m not gonna start using any of what you see until this weekend, but I got a lot of new stuff you guys will enjoy.

Went to woodcraft this past weekend and got some new things. Got some new router bits for carving, making beautiful wood joints called dovetails, and even a kit for making wood on wood/epoxy resin on wood inlays a breeze to really be able to customize my work (and to make things for my son).

As for the hardwoods you see, I got some real nice pieces here. I have some nice grain Purple Heart, some Peruvian walnut, some African Padauk (love that red/orange grain color), and two new woods I haven’t tried before: macacauba, a South and Central American hardwood prized for its fine texture and polishing capabilities, and some curly rosewood (not sure whether it’s Patagonian or Bolivian). These pieces you see here will be used for wall decor for the nursery.

I will try to post with prices the pieces I have left over from the December craft show this weekend. Stay tuned!

Today was a huge success! Not only did I sell about 7-8 different pieces, but I more than tripled my entry fee for this event! Met so many great people, and many of them decided to bring some of my products to their new home. Thank you for everyone who showed up and supported me the past two days. You have no idea how much it truly means. I’m taking a few days off to unwind, and then some finished photos of leftover products from this event will be for sale with information about them and price points so if you’d like any of the pieces I have, it’ll be able to get to you in time before Christmas. Thank you so much again for your continued support of this small, local, veteran owned business!

It’s been one productive weekend! With the Watsontown Winter Wonderland craft show in two weeks, I had to make sure I made some nice stuff for it. Four glue ups have been made this weekend. All three of the wider glue ups shown are new products coming (which will be revealed later this week) and the smaller one is a set for a new style of coaster I’m trying out. I’ve also used tbe cut-offs from the glue ups to make more bottle openers with lovely exotic woods. The woods used this weekend are African Padauk, Mexican Royal Ebony, Leopardwood, White Ash, and Jatoba. I can’t wait show you guys what’s next!

The mystery product I teased yesterday is here! Presenting our stovetop cover to our line of products! This looks a little different than a previous one shown on this page. The one previously shown my wife made herself (which turned out fantastic) and this one is based off that, with some a few extra features that normally come with products I make. This stovetop cover will fit most stoves, measuring about 21 1/8” tall by 28 3/4” long. This is my first non-hardwood based product and is made of soft pine, making it very light especially for sitting on glass tops. It features rounded edges on the boards for comfort and a smoother look, and features nickel-plated steel handles for easy and ergonomic transport on and off the stove top. The Jacobean wood stain here pairs very nicely with the handles. All it needs is one final personal touch and it’ll be ready to be a part of someone’s kitchen! I’m going to be making one more with a different stain and handle combination for the upcoming December craft show at the Watsontown Winter Wonderland here in town, but for now until I’m able to streamline the process, this will be made by order only. If you’re interested or have any questions, feel free to reach out with a private message. Thank you for supporting a small, veteran-owned business!

Happy Veterans Day to all who have served, especially friends, family, and coworkers. I have some things to show you guys tonight, but first things first: for those who don’t know I’m also a veteran, Navy veteran to be specific.

When I got out of the Navy, I didn’t really do much. I went to work, came home, then went to school, and came home. For years it was an endless cycle. I’d do things I enjoyed while I was at home with my amazing wife and dogs, spend some time with family. After some time, my wife told me that I should get a hobby. And this is how I discovered woodworking. I’d make gifts for family, especially cutting boards for my wife, but it was just a hobby I dabbled in from time to time, but it was just that: a hobby. My best friend, my father-in-law and a fellow Navy veteran once told me that one day if I loved doing it enough, I could probably start a small business and make some money on that side. We talked about it, but I never jumped on it.

A year and a half ago, he passed away. I remembered our past talks about it, and I finally decided to do something about it. And so, Hoffman’s Handmades was born. I do it for me and my family, but he’s the first one who told me to go for it and have a blast while doing it.

Before I talk about the photos shown, I want to give so much thanks to all the veterans in my life that have always had my back and supported me in all that I do, even doing my woodworking. And I’d like to give the biggest thanks to my wife, who without her constant love and support and always being by my side, I wouldn’t be the man I am today. I’m sorry I’m in the garage so much playing with my toys and making a mess, but I can’t begin to explain how much you letting me have some sawdust therapy a few days a week really means to me. Thank you for everything you are, and everything you’ve ever been. I wouldn’t be me without you by my side.

Now, on to what I spent my Veterans Day doing! I didn’t get around to finishing a new product like I promised, but it will be done tomorrow. For now, let’s talk drinks! I went ahead and followed my wife’s suggestion (for once, I’m stubborn) and I went and got very strong but small neodymium magnets to recess into the back of the bottle openers so they can stick to your fridge. They look amazing with them. Along with those, I TLC’d all the edges and did quite a bit of sanding, and finally got the bottle opener hardware installed. Tomorrow is finish sanding and putting a good coat of polyurethane to help keep them protected. Stay tuned to see what comes tomorrow! Once again, Happy Veteran’s Day from a small, veteran-owned business!

Who’s thirsty? These bottle openers are nearly complete! Just waiting on a an extra my wife suggested me getting for them, so until then I’m leaving these unsanded and unfinished until Tuesday. Two are made of walnut, two made of cherry (one has a sliver of purpleheart), one made of solid teak, one made completely of purpleheart, and the last is Mexican Royal Ebony with sapwood inclusions. All of these will be finished Tuesday, because it’s Veterans Day and I’m taking off work to spend it making sawdust! Keep watch for Tuesday as I have some more products coming that I can’t wait to show you. Stay tuned!

Got these bottle openers made today! They’re not finished yet, just need to create the opening for the bottle openers hardware to be usable, pretty them up, and apply some finish. These are looking nice!

It has been WAY too long! I meant to be back several days ago but life and work is crazy, especially this time of year. Today I have some new products to share: bottle openers! Finished sanding these today, prepping them for the hardware, and photos with the finish and the hardware glued and screwed in place will be coming soon. The knuckles and surfboard styles are made of walnut, and the open-end wrench style is made of cherry. I have more new styles and products coming so stay tuned to see more!
