🏛️A journey through Rome, captured piece by piece.
-
Across the surface of this exceptional Italian 19th-century Baroque-style center table, nine celebrated monuments of the Grand Tour are rendered in extraordinarily intricate micromosaic. St. Peter’s Square, the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, the Capitoline Hill, and other landmarks emerge from countless pieces of colored glass enamel, each individually placed to create remarkable depth, architecture, and perspective.
-
Set into a round Black Belgian marble top, each scene is framed by its own delicate micromosaic border, transforming the table into a visual tour through Rome and its ancient past. Below, an elaborately carved giltwood base of scrolling foliage, acanthus leaves, flowers, and shell motifs carries that same richness of detail throughout the piece.
A remarkable example of a centuries-old Italian art form, and a table that rewards an even closer look.
