Here’s a burning question: what happened to all those time capsules that we were required to create when we were in grammer school or high school? Was this an exercise of Catholic school students living in Brooklyn, NY during the late 50’s and 60’s? Was it an experiment fostered on all public and parochial schools across the county mandated by the Department of Education? Do you remember doing this with classmates? If so, do you remember what items were placed in capsules?
Supposedly, the capsules were to be buried for a specific number of years.
Did you actually see your classroom capsule buried? Have you witnessed any capsules being unearthed? If so, was the event attended by your former classmates?
Having too much time on my hands today, watching the rising water in the canal and bay in Freeport, Long Island, I’m just thinking back when my classmates and I imagined what the future will hold and especially how important it was to createa capsule that would be important to those living in the future.
How many of you remember this profound moment when your teachers and principals buried the capsule?
