Between March 8 — International Women’s Day and May 20 — World Bee Day, I find myself pausing to reflect.

As a woman-owned floral design business, my mission is simple: spread JOY with flowers while supporting the pollinators who sustain our world. 🌸🐝

Across centuries and cultures, women and bees have shared a quiet kinship. When I practiced biodynamic farming, the seal of Demeter — goddess of agriculture, fertility, and harvest — reminded me that tending the Earth is/was women's sacred work.

In Ancient Egypt, women were often beekeepers. Honeybees symbolized divine order and creation, and it was said that the tears of the sun god Ra became bees when they touched the Earth.

Women and bees have long stood for the same things:
community, cooperation, wisdom, and life-giving power.

Bees pollinate the crops that feed us.
Women pollinate love in family and community.

We can honor both by walking gently on the Earth and practicing self-love.
What we offer ourselves flows outward.

Love yourself → love others → love the planet. 💛🌍

As a small business owner, mother of two, and a person who has always juggled many plates and worn many hats in order to best serve my family this year health insurance felt out of my reach due to changes in the Marketplace rates. It has always been a stretch to provide health insurance for my family but this year it actually tripled in rates making it not doable. I was ready to accept that and go on, as we must do in life. We see how things are and PIVOT to adjust our expectations. I am grateful I received a call from Thomas Perrin's office one afternoon in February. I reluctantly answered a few preliminary questions and then scheduled a call with Mr. Perrin. I am glad I did. He has set my family and I up with health coverage that feels affordable and that will offer us actual coverage! I am thankful to Mr. Perrin for listening to me when I told him how much I felt I could afford. He worked hard to create a plan for me to review and I was so pleasantly surprised but what he created! It was so much more than I ever imagined possible. I recommend Mr. Perrin and encourage others to call him if you are finding yourself in a similar situation this year. Kindly, Vera

With a heavy heart, we note the passing of J. David Bamberger, founder of Selah Bamberger Ranch Preserve and a Texas Hill Country conservationist whose influence will be felt for generations.

J. David dedicated the second half of his life to a radical act of restoration, taking degraded land and bringing it back to life. When he purchased his property in Blanco County, the land was bare, overgrazed, and bone dry. Early wells produced no water. Rainfall ran off instead of sinking in. J. David’s answer was not a quick fix, but a commitment.

By selectively removing cedar, restoring native grasses, and working with the land instead of against it, the springs slowly returned. Two and a half years after restoration began, the first spring came to life. More followed. Planting and cultivating grass, which he lovingly called “the greatest conservation tool ever made”, changed everything. Selah became a living example of what care, patience, and stewardship can achieve.

Selah was never meant to be a private triumph. J. David believed deeply in sharing what the land could teach, welcoming thousands to experience how water, grass, and wildlife can recover when we choose care over neglect.

His legacy lives on in the springs that now flow, the people he inspired, and the reminder that restoration is not only possible, it is hopeful.

Rest easy, J. David. Thank you for showing us what true stewardship looks like.
