Hello Joy Prom Guests & Families!

It’s almost time for one of our favorite Joy Prom traditions — The Fairy Godmother’s Closet! 👗✨

All registered female Joy Prom guests are invited to visit The Fairy Godmother’s Closet to shop for a FREE prom dress and accessories for Joy Prom 2026!

IMPORTANT: When signing up, please use the JOY PROM GUEST’S NAME in the name field — not the caregiver or family member’s name.

Everyone who registers for an appointment will receive another email closer to the event with specific arrival, entrance, and parking information for our new location.

✨ Before Your Appointment

Please read through the following information so you know what to expect:

1. Plan to spend approximately 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes at your appointment.

2. Alterations may be available on-site, but we cannot guarantee alteration services.

3. Please bring the shoes you plan to wear to Joy Prom so we can make sure your dress is the right length. Many of our guests choose comfortable shoes, including tennis shoes!

4. If you have a strapless bra, we encourage you to bring it with you.

5. We hope to have a professional photographer on-site to photograph our guests in the dresses they choose! We encourage guests to arrive looking neat and with their hair fixed so we can capture a spectacular photo of their Fairy Godmother’s Closet experience. 📸✨

6. Returning dresses and accessories after Joy Prom is not required, but is always greatly appreciated so that another guest can enjoy them in the future. We especially appreciate the return of plus-size dresses, sparkly jewelry, wraps, and purses, as these are items we receive in limited supply.

7. We do our very best to provide a dress for every guest. Because our inventory is based on donated dresses, however, we cannot guarantee that we will have the perfect size, fit, or style for every guest.

8. Dresses from The Fairy Godmother’s Closet are intended to be borrowed and enjoyed — not resold or donated elsewhere. If we become aware that a dress has been sold or donated to a thrift or consignment shop, the guest will no longer be eligible to receive a free dress from The Fairy Godmother’s Closet in the future.

9. Photos will be taken during dress-shopping hours. By participating in The Fairy Godmother’s Closet, you agree that photographs may be used by Joy Prom on our website, social media, printed materials, and for other marketing or publicity purposes.

10. If a guest receives a dress but, for any reason, does not wear it to Joy Prom, the dress MUST be returned in order for the guest to receive another free dress from The Fairy Godmother’s Closet in the future.

11. To provide privacy and a comfortable changing environment for all of our guests, males are not permitted in the dress-shopping and fitting area. If a guest needs to attend with a male caregiver, family member, or driver, he is absolutely welcome to come but will be asked to wait in a separate designated area during the appointment.

12. Returning guests: If you received a dress bag from us in 2025, please bring it back with you if you still have it. We can use it for your dress again this year!

We absolutely LOVE seeing our Joy Prom guests find the dress that makes them light up, and we can’t wait to welcome you to The Fairy Godmother’s Closet at our new location! 💖

Tuesday evening, before our Joy Prom Executive Team meeting, I stopped by Theresa’s Exotic Apparel on Trade Street in Winston-Salem. I went in hoping to introduce myself to the owner and talk with her about possibly becoming involved with Joy Prom this year.

From the moment I walked through the door, the store felt incredibly welcoming—and there were so many beautiful and unique things to see!

I began talking with Theresa, the owner, and immediately felt welcomed and connected with her. While we were talking, Theresa stepped away to help another woman who was shopping toward the back of the store. I wandered that direction myself to look at some of the beautiful jewelry and other items, and before long, the three of us were all talking together.

And, if you know me, you probably know what happened next… 😂

I started talking about Joy Prom! 💙

The other woman was Sharon Hill, and as I began telling her about Joy Prom, she became excited about what we are doing. Sharon then told me that she hosts a television podcast every Thursday evening and said she would love to have me as a guest to talk about Joy Prom!

We exchanged numbers, and the very next day she reached out and invited me to appear on her show last night!

Of course, I was delighted to say yes. ❤️

What began as a simple stop at a local business turned into such a wonderful new connection—and an opportunity to share Joy Prom with an entirely new audience.

During the interview, I had the opportunity not only to talk about Joy Prom and what we do, but also to share a little of my own personal story and why this mission is so important to me personally.

I’ll be sharing the video from last night’s interview next, and I hope you’ll take some time to watch or listen.

And a huge THANK YOU to Theresa for being so welcoming and allowing three women who had never all met before to stand in the back of her store talking about community, connection, and Joy Prom. And a huge THANK YOU to Sharon for inviting me to join her on her podcast. I had a wonderful time and was thrilled to be able to share with her and her viewers about Joy Prom!

Sometimes the best connections really do begin with a simple conversation.

The prom is simply the invitation.
