Chapter III: Relics, Remedies, and Rookeries

The corners of the shop began to bloom with impossible life. Deep Roots Rolling Apothecary unpacked glass vials filled with glowing moss and bottled thunderstorms, setting them neatly beside Wax and Whimsy, whose melting pillar candles smelled faintly of old libraries and rain-soaked fern.

Juniper's Wares & Plushie Emporium opened a velvet sack from which tumbled an army of jointed velvet rabbits and one-eared bears, who immediately scampered up to inspect Bear's Attic Finds. Meanwhile, Peace River Relics traded old river stones with Farmhouse Favorites for pieces of Staffordshire china, while Thirteen Daisies Vintage Shed arranged dried wildflowers in copper kettles that hummed a faint, forgotten lullaby.

"It’s a regular menagerie," muttered Dysfunctional Family Heirlooms, peering through a dusty monocle at Vintage Rose, who was busy threading ribbons of crimson silk through a carved wooden birdcage.

Up in the rafters, The Cottage on Cambridge and The most delicious recipes. seemed to share a secret archive of sugar-spun pastries that tasted like childhood memories you hadn't lived yet.
