I kick my feet up in rebellion

Give me a schedule
Bestow upon me your deadlines
Just so that it will be all the more satisfying
When I prioritize rest

I kick my feet in rebellion

Giddy at the possibility of living as if I orbit the sun in the name of God
Instead of a data center built in the name of efficiency

I kick in rebellion

Down the doors that closed to me
When I realized that no seat is more important than the one at my family’s dinner table

I am a rebellion

A collection of everyone who takes the time to rest
While others, our past selves, look down on us for doing so

On the mother of all emotions: joy.

Joy is not happiness. Joy is what you feel when you don’t run from sadness, grief, rage. When all your emotions feel safe with you, joy is born.

I grieve the death of the day as I watch the sunset. And I dance in front of it, to celebrate the joy of a day lived. In the midst of studying, scheduling, and stressing out over the future, I jump up and down to remind myself my oppressors should not feel comfortable taking up space in my mind.

Next art collection is here!! After the first collection sold out in less than a month, I’ve been real excited to share this with you all after seeing how much the last one resonated. Let me know what yall think of these!

As always, each piece is priced at a flat fee of $25 with one tree planted for every piece sold. I get comments (for better or for worse) asking why I keep the prices low. I do so because I believe I have a responsibility to. The world is too dark and life is too short for me to break your wallet over poetry.

I took a trip to nyc this summer and the pigeons there always caught my eye. There was a part of me that felt bad for them. There was also a part of me that felt a lil jealous. One day I hope to know what they know, but for now I’ll just write poetry.

You do not have to “be” a poet to perform, just bring your authentic humanity (and your friends).

Legend has it The Green Mill is the birthplace of slam poetry in the US. This felt like a movie moment, what an awesome crowd, what an awesome host.

Traveling for the purpose of poetry is such a joy and privilege. This was about a month ago and now that I’m deep in my textbooks in law school, I love watching back the vibrancy that unfolded this summer.

First year of law school is upon us 😤 normally when you think “poet” you don’t think “lawyer,” and I hope I challenge that notion in your mind. I am excited to enhance my values in poetry, the arts, and public service through this law degree - contributing to the pool of real change in our community.

I am excited to document this journey, its struggles and its wisdom. And know that if you are experiencing impostor syndrome, keep close to you the arts. There is nothing more real than authentic humanity.
