April came and went, and the only then was panic-planning yet another huge move that we quite unexpectedly got the news about. And this will definitely be a "project" for more than a month, as well xD
The only thing crafty thing I did was designing a new tattoo for myself, but this won't be actually done until mid-May anyway...

On a more positive note, I will try to do something meaningful for crafts in May for sure. Probably finishing a couple unfinished projects, and a craft workshop on a charity Art Fair, as a minimum.

Also, I started beautician training and this requires precision like no crafts I have tried before. I guess that counts as ? =)

Since my ambitious macrame project has stretched to a second month, I've decided to try something smaller as this time.

Origami seemed like a good idea.
Being a huge fan of useful/usable projects, I've decided to try it in miniature version to make some jewellery.
Instant lessons after the first attempt:
1) Sausage fingers
2) This design even from 1/2 of the smallest paper I have makes hearts too big for jewellery. Well, maybe like a pendant, but definitely quite large for earrings
3) Patterned paper looks much better unfolded 🤣

I'll keep trying. Will do a craft market run for earrings hoops and maybe a few rings base pieces.
And definitely hope to finish macrame by April!

CHARITY WORKSHOP

My teaching schedule has finally cleared enough to schedule a live workshop.
Our friends at The Alchemist Cafe agreed to host the charity workshop - 100% of workshop fee will go towards Eden Aid for Ukraine.

I really wanted to remind myself (first of all) and others that Russia isn't just the atrocities its government and army are committing in this war. There is also big and beautiful culture, and it can actually help with raising money to support Ukraine.

In this workshop we will learn about some traditional Russian patterns and painting styles. Then you'll be able to use step-by-step tutorials to decorate a wooden jewelry box or a canvas tote bag.

There will be a few styles to choose from, and of course you can put a twist on it using your own imagination and style.
The boxes come in 4 different shapes. Tote bags can be washed in the washing machine on gentle wash setting after the paint is fully dry.

If you want, we can also learn how to write your name in Russian - there is a different alphabet, as you know!

Adults and kids are welcome. The pics are from a kids workshop a couple years ago, look at the awesome results =)
The workshop will take 1-1.5 hours

Time: 6 pm on Friday, March 17
Place: The Alchemist Cafe (158D Pasteur, D1)
Fee: 350k + purchase a drink

Please PM or comment to book your spot, limited to 10 seats

Progress check on the delayed project stretching from February.
Lots of insights from undertaking such a massive project as my first macrame.
The original vision was an ocean themed hanger, range of textures for the sea, and a mermaid tail on the right side.
Let's see how it turns out after all.
Fascinating learning experience regardless :)

Well, some progress has been made :)
Here is the inspiration photo, and also what I have done so far.
I wonder if it looks as good as I imagine. Definitely a very ambitious project for the first macrame. Go big or go home :)
I couldn't miss on that cool wavy stick though, and it was quite big.
Loving this whole idea

isn't going as smoothly this time, maybe because I had too big of an idea. A large macrame project might be not the best thing to try as the first attempt. And I had to wait for delivery for quite a while.
So far I only managed to find the base and cut some of the string (which Stephen instantly tangled into a huge mess).
Hopefully I can find time to at least start with it before the month ends. Guess march will be a double hobby month - finishing macrame and trying something else.

Another project I wanted to try while I'm playing with shells - a ring dish.
Andrea joined to make a couple as well.
Mine are the maximalistic set of three here. But how awesome is that? Just one tissue design, and so many possibilities!

Playing around with the shells. Ombre mosaic from the the small shells. Looks like I will have a new jewelry box soon 🥰
