A World on Fire is a chapter exhibition from the written narrative of my created world, Forget Me Nots Land. This exhibition explores ideas of immigration, celebration, golden memories, and chaotic forces that disrupt the balance of harmony and life. The works are centered on a festival that brings travelers to the world from places abroad. As the festivities come to an end the citizen’s notice that the colorful world they are used to seeing has been replaced by muted tones and greys. My protagonist, Bookie, with a band of friends, sets out to restore peace and harmony.
This chapter, created entirely in 2025, encompasses twenty two oil paintings ranging in scale. The viewer can expect to see abstract figurative paintings with notes of Afrofuturism and a comic book sensibility. As always, my work ties in to the current sociological climate and uses pop culture and historical art references to accentuate my ideas.
A World on Fire runs concurrently with the Dixon’s 5oth anniversary exhibition-– Black Artists in America: From the Bicentennial to September 11th. I hope you will visit the Dixon and help us both celebrate this special occasion.
