Today the sky goes dark over Western Europe. For a few minutes across northern Spain, the moon slides in front of the sun. Then the light comes back.

We think about transformation a lot at Love Welcomes.

Our Rwanda baskets are woven by women who know what it means to come through darkness. Survivors of the 1994 genocide. Women living with disabilities. Weaving gave them steady work, income above a living wage, and a way to heal side by side. Each basket holds hours of patience. Each one is a small act of return.

One basket is beautiful on its own. But group several together and a space transforms. Mix the sizes. Vary the heights. Cluster them on an outdoor table, line them along a patio wall, let the sunlight catch the weave. The shadows shift as the day moves.

Light always comes back.

Courage to Carry

The news from Kyiv this week has been hard to read. Night after night, missiles and drones over the city and the region around it. It has been one of the deadliest stretches for civilians since the war began.

The women of our Love Rises team live inside this. They knit through the sirens, through the power cuts, through the nights spent away from home. And they keep knitting.

Each Courage to Carry Charm is made by hand by the Love Rises team in Kyiv. Small enough to sit in your palm or clip to your bag. A reminder to keep going when going on feels impossible, held in your hand and made by hands that know exactly what that takes.

When you buy one, you are not sending charity. You are paying a woman in Kyiv for her skill and her craft. And you are helping us do more: emergency aid when it is needed most, and steady work that lets the Love Rises team keep providing for their families through the war.

75 years ago this week, the world agreed on a simple truth: people forced to flee deserve safety.

On 28 July 1951, the Refugee Convention was signed in Geneva. This week it turns 75. It gave us the right to claim asylum, the right to protection, and the right to begin again.

At Love Welcomes, we know what those rights look like in practice, because we have walked alongside women at every stage of the journey.

We have seen safety in the refugee camps of Greece, and the work of holding onto a future when everything is uncertain.

We have seen the first job in London. The pathway from arriving to belonging. Women contributing to UK society, from healthcare to childcare, and finding their footing through our creative workshops.

Today we work globally: inside the war in Ukraine, in refugee camps in Lebanon, and under occupation in the West Bank, Palestine.

Freedom of movement. The right to claim asylum. The right to a new beginning through employment, community, and safety. These are not abstract ideas to us. They are the women we work with every day.

And in every place, we have seen the same thing: resilience, creativity, and women who do not just seek a place in society but strengthen it.

75 years on, the promise of 1951 still matters. We are proud to help keep it.

🌿 Her Summer Favorites, from Palestine 🌿

Summer is about gathering — and our Palestinian artisans have shaped a table setting made for exactly that. Here's the story behind it, in their own words:

"Summer is about sharing with loved ones — over a picnic, a casual gathering, good food. We shape these bowls on a pottery wheel and hand-paint patterns that tell our story. The keffiyeh and olive branch represent our right to sea and land, and the livelihoods they give us.

In collaboration with the Darzah team, we built a full table setting around our ceramics. Tatreez is a tradition passed down for centuries — we think you'll love it on our olive linen placemats or our coaster set for your summer drinks."

Every bowl, every stitch of tatreez, is made by refugee and displaced women earning dignified, above-living-wage work. When you set your table with their craft, you carry their story to it. 🕊️

"We take patterns from nature and handprint them by hand. This beach bag is one of our favorites — it brings two of our creative talents together in one piece: hand-printed on the outside, and a woven basket lining on the inside to sift the sand from your bag.

🕊️ Happy Peace Day Dove — Supporting Peace and Justice
This hand-embroidered piece radiates warmth, joy, and a universal wish for peace. Created by a refugee woman at Alsama Studio, it features a dove gently embracing the Earth, surrounded by cheerful hearts and the message "Happy Peace Day" — a reminder that peace begins with small acts of love and compassion.
Each artist chose a photograph that represented "peace" to them personally, then embroidered it stitch by stitch, weaving in their own stories, meaning, and dreams for a kinder world.
This original artwork was created by refugee women — mothers of Alsama Project students — in the Shatila refugee camp, Lebanon. Every purchase provides these women with meaningful work and income, and proceeds support the artist and fund girls' education at the Alsama Project.
