I recently had the pleasure of painting this commissioned piece for a friend, featuring her husband enjoying one of his favorite pastimes—golf. It is a very big painting measuring three feet by five feet. A commission like this is more than simply capturing a person’s likeness; it is about preserving a special memory and the joy found in doing something he loves. I hope this painting will bring them both many years of happy memories.

The mountains and the rocky land in the foreground were made using a mastic. The sky and mountains were painted using alcohol ink. The rest of the painting was done with acrylics. This mixed-media landscape, presented in a custom frame, captures the rugged beauty of a mountain range rising above the brilliant turquoise waters of an alpine lake. Rich texture created with mastic gives the mountains and rocky foreground a sculptural quality, allowing the peaks to seem as though they emerge from the canvas. Layers of alcohol ink provide soft, luminous transitions in the mountains and sky, creating an atmospheric depth that contrasts beautifully with the bold textures.

Acrylic paints bring the remaining elements to life—from the tranquil blue-green lake and evergreen trees to the weathered split-rail fence that invites the viewer into the scene.
