Pebbles or plants? These clever succulents from southern Africa are called living stones (Lithops spp.). They look just like pebbles, with two semi-fused fleshy leaves that stay buried in the soil with only their flat tops exposed. In autumn, a large yellow or white daisy-shaped flower arises from the centre.
