What do you think of Yulia Glas’s painting of a Dutch iris, compared to the real thing?

3 Sunbird Species, painted by Renée Gerstner, is currently available from us at Stanford Pen Studio.

Renée painted directly on to the body of one of our Jabulani models. We then coated the artwork in a clear resin and turned it into a fountain pen, adding a custom made sage green grip section, and a #6 Jowo nib (which Di tunes individually).
The clear resin protects the artwork and allows the owner to carry this pen and use it as a functional work of art.
Dave made the pen, adding a gold plated clip, bronze section ring, cap band, and our logo medallion which is embedded in the cap finial.
Each of our hand-painted fountain pens is an original. If you would like to request a custom pen or journal cover to be painted by Renée, you are welcome to contact us via an email or a message on social media.

This fountain pen was painted for the many people who love to journal and who are particularly fond of a vintage aesthetic such as sepia tones, old wood grain, scuffed leather and bronze with a genuine patina. Hanna Farmer has created a wonderfully olde worlde look with her vintage hot air balloons, slightly washed out sky and a scene from the late 1800s. Her balloon festival above a quaint, turreted town has several quirky details if you look closely enough. In the gondola of one of the balloons on the cap, there is a stylishly dressed woman who sits serenely amongst her luggage which includes a cat inside a bird cage, an owl on a perch, a banjo, a lamp, a fringed blanket that has yellow and silver flowers, a long shawl, a barrel, and she even has a cat on her lap. Many of the balloons are festooned with flags and buntings and pennants.
We made the pen blank at our workshop in Stanford. Once Hanna had completed her artwork we then coat the painted pen blank in a clear resin, shaped the pen to its final dimensions with engineering precision, and finally polished the protective layer to a glass-like finish. The clear resin protects the artwork from being scratched during day to day use, making this a portable, functional work of art.
