Handmade craftsmanship.

Progress update on the handmade sculptural chandelier lights. These are made by a community driven project that empowers disabled people from rural areas to learn skill and develop their abilities and earn a life for themselves.

At R.Winter we strive to be inclusive of the people that live in the communities we design in.

Client brief was to design a space around a tandoori oven, something that would showcase the beauty of the flames and the use of a tandoori kitchen.

What better way than to design it as if the chef is standing in a tandoori oven? Inspired by the round clay oven; we conceptualised a round window, with rich orange tones reflecting the glowing coals of the oven. The chef then moves around in the foreground, as the food would.

We placed this behind the welcoming station to draw guests in from the walkway directly in front of the restaurant.

Every stone has its own character.

This character changes and reflects the spaces mood more than one would think. Dark stone create deep moody spaces, where light stone often reflect elegance and grandeur.

Stones like silver mink create the perfect balance of elgance with a contemporary edge, where colonial white is a traditional feeling of grandure. Black nimbus can be imagined in a dark underground bar in a leathered finish to convey depth and privacy.
These moodboards explore how natural stone can influence the atmosphere, texture and overall story of an interior.

Thoughtful material selection is where the design begins.

Stone selection makes or breaks a design, often times people don't realise but the stone sets the mood of a space, the finish of the stone reinforces this mood.

Leathered for a raw feeling or polished for a refined luxury space compared to a bush hammered granite for that sensational sense provoking texture

Upgrading an existing store comes with its own challenges: how do you maintain brand identity while breathing new life into the space?

Here, we were tasked with upgrading an existing space while making minimal changes to the structure and shopfitting. We introduced colour-blocked brickwork, tiles with azure grout, new signage to communicate the service steps, and comfortable seating to complement the colour-blocking.

A project is a only as good as the personality that it captures.

Each space has a personal story, whether it is the story of place, person/guest or the history.

These stories often get captured in smaller visual details that can be emphasized by hand made quality. In these images you see the details designers added to the spaces to tell their stories.
