Project Insight | Hillside Cluster Residences-Bulawayo

This project presented an exciting opportunity to extend our design exploration, challenging our understanding of structural integrity and spatial adaptability within a compact residential setting.
Our client approached us with a 4,000sqm property featuring an existing main house, with the vision to optimise the remaining land through the addition of two independent dwelling units. The primary design challenges involved addressing privacy concerns, ensuring efficient site accessibility, and achieving a clear functional separation between the units.
Each 100sqm unit was carefully designed to enjoy its own private garden space and ample natural lighting, ensuring comfort and livability without compromising the architectural character of the existing site.
During the early construction stages, our team encountered challenging loam soil conditions a factor that demanded both technical precision and adaptive thinking. Leveraging our emphasis on comprehensive site analysis and contextual understanding, we implemented an innovative lightweight steel structural system. This approach significantly reduced building load, allowing us to decrease foundation density by up to 30%, thereby optimising both cost efficiency and structural performance.
These residences form part of our ongoing “Earn As You Live” initiative an architectural drive aimed at promoting income-generating residential models that merge aesthetic excellence with economic sustainability.
