Join me on a 4$ ferry ride in NYC as we discover a new side of the city! From the Brooklyn Bridge to hidden gems, this vlog is in 4K and filled with adventure.
We are riding the NYC Ferry, one of the best travel Hacks that most of tourists don’t know about because as a tourist when you search online you get to see highly advertised tour packages like dinner cruises, the circle line etc which are great experience in their own way of course and I think worth the money but for budget option this is truly the best way to see the city from the water.
Well there are 6 routes available on this Ferry which connects all 5 boroughs of New York City. We will be covering Astoria Route which starts from Astoria in Queens.
Other routes include:
East River route is the best option if you are planning to walk over Brooklyn bridge, you can get down at Dumbo and you can easily get onto Brooklyn bridge walking towards Manhattan Skyline.
Rockaway Route if you plan to visit Sunset Park or Rockaway beach and can have beautiful views of New York Bridges, Governor’s island and Statue of Liberty.
Soundview Route for visiting Bronx up north
South Brooklyn Route and St. George Route for visiting Staten Island
How do you buy tickets? The easiest way is to download NYC ferry app and buy tickets online before you get to the station. Another way is to get to a ferry terminal and buy your tickets from the machine.
First Bridge that pulls our attention is Queensboro Bridge, iconic and so beautiful. Similar to Brooklyn bridge you can also walk across it or do cycling but if you really want to relax and enjoy the view like us just get on New York Ferry.
I would recommend to sit on the upper open air deck unless its freezing cold.
The ferry is pretty spacious, and it's a lovely day for a ride. It’s a quick trip, but there’s so much to see along the way.
On the way you will catch glimpses of Midtown Manhattan as we head close to Wall Street.
Remember if you are returning on the same route you need another ticket for 4$ however All transfers to other NYC Ferry routes are free and valid for 120 minutes once you start your one-way trip. Best way to track your ticket validity is via New York Ferry app which will show your remaining time.
New York has so many bridges and Manhattan alone has 21 connections via tunnels and bridges. The most famous and widely used bridges are Queens borough which we saw beginning of the video followed by Williamsburg bridge which you can see here connecting Brooklyn with Lower East Side of Manhattan.
The next Bridge will be Manhattan Bridge which also connects Brooklyn with Manhattan near China Town followed by the famous Brooklyn bridge.
The Easiest way is to remember the sequence of these bridges with acronym BMW Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg.
However in our case we were going in opposite direction starting with Williamsburg, Manhattan and then Brooklyn bridge. The later two are quite close to each other and can be seen together.
As I mentioned earlier Brooklyn Bridge is a must visit place, specially we the evening walk in summer is very beautiful. Its amazing how many ways you can do Brooklyn bridge with cycling, evening walk was beautiful, we crossed via taxi many times and now we are going under it and this view never gets old. By far the most relaxing way to experience New York I would say.
There are lot of tour companies operating in New York who lot to offer in term of tour packages including sunset or dinner cruises, the circle line cruse is the most famous but for budget option this is truly the best way to see the city from the water for just 4 $
The final station at Pierre 11 Wall Street! Which is the financial Hub of New York and from here you can get onto another ferry in the same ticket or get down to explore some exciting tourist attractions like One World Center Observation Deck or visit 9/11 Memorial.
