Here’s the color theory behind it

On the Itten Color Wheel, blue and orange sit opposite each other. They’re complementary colors, creating one of the strongest possible contrasts

In this arrangement, cool blue hydrangeas meet warm orange tomatoes. The contrast works not only in color, but also in temperature and mood. Softness meets energy, calm meets vibrancy

The result is an arrangement that catches your eye immediately—and keeps it there

How to keep ikebana from falling over?

1. If you’re worried the kenzan might shift, secure it with floral adhesive clay. Important: both the bowl and the metal base must be completely dry. Warm the clay in your hands (or slightly with a hairdryer) and press it down firmly — it will hold solidly.

If your kenzan has a rubber base, you can simply place it in the vase. For lightweight arrangements, this is usually enough.

2. Cut the stem at a straight angle and place it onto the pins following their direction. Don’t push — instead, “set” the flower onto the kenzan.

3. Watch the balance. If you place a heavy orchid forward, support it from behind: add a branch, a line, or volume to create counterbalance and prevent the arrangement from tipping.

The first day of our Rome Masterclass — and already so many beautiful works and inspiring moments.

This time we decided to change the usual format and worked not with flower boxes, but with ceramic pots. This type of arrangement requires a different approach: it is important to carefully consider the balance of the form, the direction of the lines and the natural placement of the flowers.

We used seasonal blooms and a bright spring palette — mimosa, daffodils, roses and delicate accent flowers — creating light and lively floral arrangements.

The first day is always special: meeting new people, practicing together, sharing ideas, and watching each arrangement develop its own character.

And we are already preparing new masterclasses in different cities around the world:
