মুহা’ম্মাদ সাল্লাল্লাহু আ’লাইহি ওয়া সাল্লাম-এর দায়িত্ব ছিলো লোকদেরকে উপদেশ দেওয়া, তাদেরকে সতর্ক-সাবধান করা। বল প্রয়োগ করে, ভয় দেখিয়ে, জোর-জবস্তি করে লোকদেরকে হেদায়েত করতেই হবে, এমন দায়িত্ব তাঁকে দেওয়া হয়নি।
আল্লাহ তাআ’লা বলেনঃ “(হে নবী!) আপনি তাদেরকে উপদেশ দিন, আপনি তো কেবল একজন উপদেশদাতা মাত্র। আপনি তাদের উপর জিম্মাদার (বা কর্তৃত্বশীল শাসক) নন।” সুরা আল-গাশিয়াহঃ ২১-২২।
