A vernissage of our summer exhibition, “Flowers That Don’t Wither,” held last Saturday, was both warm and inspiring.

This summer, Cabinet of Curiosity present a selection of vibrant still-life paintings by renowned Neo-Figurative artists (or perhaps, we can say, Post-Impressionists and Poetic Realists)… The exhibition features mid-twentieth-century works by:

Guy Bardone
René Genis
Maurice Blond
Clifford Cundy

We are grateful to everyone who joined us for the opening. Special thanks to our longtime friends and connoisseurs, Omar A.H | S.T.Keeler and Virginie Ellis •Fine Art •Desert , for being among the first to discover this beautiful selection.

We invite you to visit the exhibition and experience in person the details that no camera can fully capture.

Art collectors are welcome to our antique gallery:

This key opens something curious.

Featured:
Rococo Style Porcelain Casket with Gilt Metal Frame (key included)
19th Century, possibly France.

The painted scenes belong to the tradition of the “fête galante”, a genre developed in early 18-century France and widely popularized through painting and the decorative arts. These compositions depict elegantly dressed figures in pastoral settings, engaged in conversation and courtship amid idealized landscapes.

The design is completed with distinctive Rococo elements: a turquoise scale pattern and gilt rocaille scrolls with crown finials.

Now on display in our antique gallery:

FLOWERS THAT DON’T WITHER: EXHIBITION

Bringing together still life paintings by Guy Bardone, René Genis, Maurice Blond, and Clifford Cundy, the exhibition celebrates artists who preserved the tradition of figurative painting in the mid-twentieth century, during decades increasingly dominated by abstraction.

“A Night Celebration of a Muslim Eid” by Thomas Frederick Mason Sheard (1866-1921), a well-known British Orientalist, landscapist, and portraitist.

This work is unique in many ways – T.F.M. Sheard extensively depicted Algeria, particularly the sunlit vistas of Ghardaïa, yet this painting, unlike his others, reveals a nocturnal scene: a sacred Eid al-Adha celebration.

The painting underwent a professional restoration process and became one of the important highlights of our antique collection.

For centuries, Ramadan has been marked by cycles of recitation that complete the Qur’an over the course of the month... a practice that continues today.

Featured: a collection of Qur’an folios, 15-16th Centuries, Egypt and Persia. In the fifteenth century, Qur’anic calligraphy was created within an established proportional canon developed in earlier periods. Scripts such as muhaqqaq and naskh followed regulated systems of geometry and spacing, while illumination and verse markers structured the reading of the text rather
than embellishing it.
