On Photography Week, we celebrate not only the photographs, but the stories, history and heritage they have the power to preserve.

This Rolleicord belonged to my father, the late Ramesh Shukla. Through its lens, he captured some of the defining moments surrounding the formation of the United Arab Emirates, now displayed at the Etihad Museum. This is more than a camera. It is a witness to history.

When children visit us, we place this same camera in their hands. The camera my father once held. The camera through which he documented history. We want a new generation to understand the power of photography, not simply to create an image, but to preserve a moment, a culture and a legacy for generations to come.

My grandfather gave this camera to my father when he was just 15. My father later passed it, and his knowledge and passion for photography, to me. Today, together with my daughter Emma, we continue that journey.

Three generations, one camera, and a legacy that continues to be shared.

On , Neel Shukla returns to Etihad Museum carrying the very camera his late father, photographer Ramesh Shukla, used to document some of the most defining moments in the formation of the UAE, including the signing of the Union Agreement.
More than a camera that captured photographs, it preserved the memory of a nation, giving a new generation the opportunity to explore history through a story that continues to be told to this day.
