NEW YORK APARTMENT
Designed for a client with a strong preference for dark, rich and luxurious interiors, this 90 sqm New York apartment was conceived as an intimate home with a bold and sophisticated character. The client was drawn to deeper colors, statement materials and spaces that feel dramatic and elegant rather than light or minimal.
At Merci Projects, we developed the material palette around this vision, combining dark marble, deep wood tones and black finishes to create the architectural foundation of the apartment. Against these darker surfaces, warm gold detailing was introduced throughout the interiors to bring contrast, warmth and a more refined sense of luxury.
Rich fabrics became an important part of the design language. Deep green velvet was selected for the living and dining spaces, bringing color and softness against the darker materials, while purple velvet introduces a different jewel tone within the bedroom. These colors were chosen to give the apartment personality without losing the sophisticated atmosphere the client wanted.
Dark marble surfaces add depth and natural movement, while gold finishes appear through furniture details, decorative elements and lighting, connecting the different spaces of the apartment. Statement chandeliers and layered architectural lighting were selected not simply as functional elements, but as part of the overall design — illuminating the richer materials and creating a warm atmosphere against the dark palette.
