Abanos recently welcomed the Dubai College Year 12 Design Technology students for a factory visit, providing them with first-hand insight into how design concepts are translated into professionally manufactured products.

The visit formed part of a year-long collaboration between Dubai College, DesertBoard and Abanos, centred around an innovative design challenge: creating IKEA-inspired flat-pack chairs using DesertBoard PSB® (Palm Strand Board).

Throughout the project, the students took their concepts from initial sketches and cardboard models to CAD drawings, assembly instructions and full-scale prototypes. They were encouraged to think beyond aesthetics and consider dimensions, assembly, manufacturability and material efficiency as part of the design process.

As part of the collaboration, DesertBoard provided 100% sustainable engineered wooden boards, while the Abanos production team transformed the students' digital designs into physical components using CNC machining and professional finishing processes.

During their visit, the students explored Abanos' production floors and gained insight into CNC machining, finishing, quality control and the wider manufacturing process. Seeing the machinery used to produce their own chair components gave them a direct connection between their design work and real-world manufacturing.

The collaboration reflects the value of connecting education with industry, giving students an opportunity to experience the complete journey from concept and design to manufacturing and prototype.

Abanos is making steady progress on JGE Signature Mansions, an exclusive residential development in Jumeirah Golf Estates, with 79% of works successfully completed. Our scope includes full interior fit-out and bespoke joinery works, covering the fabrication and installation of wooden doors, wardrobes, kitchen cabinets, vanity units, wall paneling, skirting, architraves, and other custom-made interior woodwork items, contributing to the project’s refined residential environment.

JGE Signature Mansions is a collection of 18 ultra-luxurious villas, each spanning four floors and designed with meticulous attention to detail. The villas come in three distinct styles: The Magnolia Collection, The Orchid Collection, and The Jasmine Collection, with five- and six-bedroom configurations tailored to meet the demands of modern luxury living. Additionally, a sophisticated loft building adds a unique architectural element to this already distinguished project, setting it apart in the high-end Dubai real estate market.

The project’s architectural and design vision is led by Architectural Corner and MWM Studio, creating distinctive spaces tailored to the development’s luxury positioning. Abanos’ fit-out and joinery works are scheduled for completion in October 2026.
