- on this Mother's Day
Mother’s Day is never just a celebration for me… it is a journey through memories, love, loss, and healing.
In 1989, while I was still in Grade 12, I lost my mother. I was too young to understand how deeply that loss would shape my life. My younger siblings were only 14 and 12, and suddenly childhood ended for all of us. There are some losses time never truly heals — you simply learn to carry them quietly in your heart.
For years, I longed for my mother most during the moments when life became difficult… and especially during the moments when I myself became a mother.
When my first daughter, my precious Dhara, came into my life, I finally understood a mother’s love completely. But destiny had another heartbreak waiting for me. After fighting aggressive cancer, my little angel left us at just when she was about to turn 2 years
There are no words powerful enough to describe the pain of losing a child. A mother carries her baby within her forever — even when her arms are empty. Part of me broke with her loss, and even today, there are days when I still search for her in my memories, in silence, in prayers, and in the stars.
Sometimes I wonder… maybe my mother needed Dhara beside her more than I did. And that thought is the only thing that brings me comfort.
Life, however, has its own mysterious way of sending light back into broken hearts. God blessed me again with my daughter Ridhima, who turns 15 this July. She did not replace my loss — because no one ever can — but she brought laughter back into my home and strength back into my soul.
Today, I carry three roles within me: A daughter who still misses her mother. A mother who still mourns her child. And a mother who continues to love with all her heart.
This Mother’s Day, I celebrate love that never dies. Because the people we lose never truly leave us… they live within us, in every prayer, every memory, every tear, and every heartbeat.
To every woman carrying invisible pain behind her smile — I see you.
And to my Maa and my Dhara… I carry you with me every single day.
