If screens are part of your home, I always recommend choosing low-stimulation content with calmer colours, slower scene changes, and thoughtful pacing. A much gentler choice for little nervous systems.

As both a teacher and a parent, I know that going back to school brings up a lot for little ones.

New classrooms, new teachers, new friendships, and all the big feelings that come with them.

Reading together before the school year begins is one of the simplest ways to open those conversations. The right book gives children the language for what they’re feeling before they ever have to find the words themselves.

The Sky, Grass, Dirt method is one of the easiest ways to teach little ones handwriting at home this summer.

Three zones, a piece of paper, and some markers is all you need. It teaches letter alignment, letter height, and consistency in a way that feels like a fun challenge rather than practice. Grab a workbook or set it up yourself and let them get started.

This is our favourite summer activity right now 👇🏼

Yoto Players! Low-tech, screen free and perfectly fun for an analog summer. They can listen to stories, podcasts, non-fiction books and music completely independently.

It builds listening skills, vocabulary, and imagination, and it’s one of the easiest activities for kids to bring along wherever they go, whether you’re indoors on a hot summer day, or traveling together.

Children often learn times tables by memorising answers, but without understanding why those answers are correct.

Arrays help children see multiplication as equal groups organised into rows and columns.

Using LEGO bricks and play doh turns an abstract concept into something they can build, move and explore with their hands.

This develops stronger number sense, pattern recognition and problem-solving skills, making multiplication far easier to understand and remember.

When children understand the concept first, the memorising comes much more naturally.

Save this for your next maths activity and send it to a parent who needs it. 🤍

Board games are one of the most underrated things you can have on hand this summer.

What looks like an afternoon of fun is actually building strategy, patience, vocabulary, problem solving, and so much more. The kind of learning that happens quietly, in the background, while everyone around the table is just having a really good time.

These are our favourites for hot days indoors when going outside isn’t an option. Every single one grows with your child well beyond this summer.

Too hot to play outside and you don’t want to hand over a screen? Try this instead.

Educational books are one of the most underrated screen-free activities for kids at home. Not textbooks, not worksheets, but they teach children about the world around them in a way that feels like play rather than learning.

The right ones spark questions, fuel curiosity, and keep little ones genuinely busy indoors. Easy to read in a reading corner, easy to pack for summer travels.
