// GROUNDBREAKING: RLB OÖ CAMPUS IN LINZ //
We are delighted that the official launch of construction for the new headquarters of Raiffeisenlandesbank Oberösterreich has taken place. An important milestone for a project that will shape the cityscape of Linz in the future.

Designed by HENN architects as a contemporary hybrid timber building, the project brings together an international team consisting of HENN architecture, SODA Designers, HofmanDujardin architecture and interior design, and INNOCAD architecture.
Our role encompasses the interior design concept for the customer center, the workspaces—including the atrium areas—and the executive level.

This visionary project is now entering its next phase, and we look forward to bringing these ideas to life together with all project partners. More information can be found via the link below.

// CASA S FEATURED IN LUXERY ESTATE MAGAZINE //
Our project CASA S was recently featured in the latest issue of Luxury Estate Magazine, a monthly supplement of the newspaper Die Presse. Described as a "cool new home with a pitched roof," the project offers a contemporary interpretation of the suburban single-family house. Rather than replicating familiar typologies, CASA S translates them into a reduced architectural language defined by clarity, proportion, and material precision.

The magazine focuses on high-end residential architecture, real estate, and contemporary living with a strong connection to place, presenting projects that combine architectural quality and design excellence.

CASA S reflects this approach through the precise use of timber as both a structural and atmospheric element. Generous openings frame the surrounding landscape, while a more enclosed wooden shell shapes the private upper floor, balancing openness and retreat within a coherent spatial concept. // XALec FEATURED IN XILENCE CATALOG //
Recently featured in the current Xilence catalog, XALec demonstrates how evidence-based design strategies can meaningfully shape the contemporary workplace. XALec demonstrates how principles of biophilic and science-based design interwove to shape a holistic office environment around focus, wellbeing, and human performance.

A central design element is the integration of large acoustic wall panels featuring fractal structures, based on the research of ScienceDesignLab – a collaboration between Prof. Richard Taylor (University of Oregon and Fractals Research, USA) and 13&9 Design. Embedded within the spatial and acoustic layers of the interior, these elements become part of a broader architectural concept that addresses both atmosphere and function.

Rather than acting as decorative motifs, these geometries contribute to a calm yet stimulating environment, supporting concentration and reducing stress through spatial qualities grounded in scientific research. Learn more about FRACTAL CODE via the link. https://www.xal.com/catalogues/xilence25_en-de/ -de/page/6-7

// FRACTAL LIGHTING AT LOVE THAT DESIGN //
Big thanks to Love That Design, a platform with a pioneering community of architects, strategists, innovators, and tech enthusiasts, for featuring our project MOSH Bar & Dinner in Bucharest.

The interior of this "multitalented space" is defined by transformation, connectivity, and collective experience. At its core is a fractal lighting concept developed by 13&9 Design and Fractals Research, which continuously adapts throughout the night—from vibrant dining atmosphere to intimate bar setting, and finally into a dynamic, kinetic installation that animates the entire space.

More than a visual feature, the fractal patterns are rooted in scientific research and are associated with stress-reducing effects, creating an environment that feels both stimulating and calming at the same time. // FRACTAL CHAPEL NOMINATED AT HEALING ARCHITECTURE AWARDS //
We are glad to announce that the FRACTAL CHAPEL at the University Hospital Graz has been nominated for the Healing Architecture Awards, recognizing its contribution to healing-centered design and its innovative synthesis of space, and human perception.

The award honors outstanding architecture and interior architecture in the healthcare sector, celebrating projects that promote well-being and set new standards through healing spatial concepts. The nomination highlights the Fractal Chapel as a pioneering example of evidence-based, atmospheric design.

The chapel’s biophilic design translates natural growth into spatial experience through a continuous spiral geometry that intuitively guides visitors. Fractal lighting, developed in collaboration between 13&9 Design and Fractals Research, filters through perforated patterns to create shifting light and shadow. This dynamic, nature-inspired interplay fosters a calm, immersive atmosphere with scientifically proven stress-reducing effects that support perception and well-being. // NEW PROJECT: APT PHD - APARTMENT RENOVATION WITHIN A HERITAGE-PROTECTED MUNICIPAL HOUSING COMPLEX //
Located in Graz, this apartment for a private client is part of a housing ensemble built between 1929 and 1931 in the spirit of Neue Sachlichkeit. The existing apartment typology is characteristic of historic Altbau dwellings of this period, defined by generous ceiling heights, large living spaces, and comparatively small service rooms, where the kitchen already functioned as a social center that became the conceptual starting point for the redesign.

Without altering the position of the existing wet areas, the apartment was completely reorganized into two clearly defined zones. A generous entrance space establishes a welcoming atmosphere, accommodating arrival, cooking, and dining as an open, connected sequence of spaces. This public, communicative zone is set in deliberate contrast to the more private rooms of the apartment, which retreat into calmer, more introverted atmospheres.

New insertions are articulated through a restrained material palette, deliberately set apart from the warmth of the historic fabric. A centrally positioned “bath box” operates as a spatial anchor and organizational device, structuring the entrance with integrated storage and sauna functions while simultaneously defining the kitchen, island, and dining zones. This central volume is clad in a wallcovering from the Renaturation Collection, developed through a collaboration between 13&9 Design, Fractals Research and Momentum Textiles & Wallcovering, and draws on research-based design principles. Rooted in scientific research on fractal geometry, the collection translates natural patterns into architectural surfaces. Fractals – self-repeating patterns found throughout nature – have been scientifically proven to boost cognitive performance and significantly reduce stress. // MAM COMPETENCE CENTER PUBLISHED IN THE LATEST CONCEPT MAGAZINE #41 //
The MAM Competence Center in Großhöflein, featured in a recent Concept Magazine article on neurodiverse workplaces, was conceived as a collaborative and neuroinclusive environment, integrating spaces for concentration, exchange, movement, and retreat.

The 4,500 m² office and laboratory building is organized as three cylindrical volumes, creating workplaces with clear orientation and controlled visual fields. When seated, employees overlook only a limited spatial radius, while circulation paths remain legible and compact. These spatial strategies help reduce cognitive overload and support focused work within a collaborative office environment.

How can workplaces respond to different ways of perceiving and processing the environment?

This question is explored in the article "WORK RELOADED – Ein Schreibtisch fürs Supertalent." In conversation with architecture critic Wojciech Czaja, Martin Lesjak discusses how workplace architecture can address the growing awareness of neurodiversity in the working environment.

The article brings together perspectives from psychology, workplace research, and architecture to examine how spatial conditions influence concentration, wellbeing, and collaboration.
"Neurodiversity is the umbrella term describing how differently our brains are wired and how differently we function." – Julie Simstich, occupational psychologist

Acoustics, visual complexity, lighting conditions, and spatial orientation can affect people in very different ways. What may seem like a minor distraction for some can become a significant source of stress for others. Discover the full e-paper via the link.

// EXHIBITION / THE PRIZE BAG: DOUBLE LIVES OF ARCHITECTURE //
We are honored that our PALLIATIVE CARE UNIT at the Regional Hospital Southwest Styria, site Deutschlandsberg, is featured in the exhibition "THE PRIZE BAG: DOUBLE LIVES OF ARCHITECTURE" developed in the context of the Architecture Award of the State of Styria 2025.

Curated by Sevince Bayrak and Oral Göktaş of "SO? architecture and ideas" the award frames architectural recognition not as a final verdict, but as a means of engaging with the culture of the built environment.

Fourteen projects were shortlisted and visited on site, emphasizing physical reality over representation. Based on these visits, the installation looks beyond polished images to explore what unfolds between drawing and construction, intention and crisis, and completion and everyday use. Rather than presenting architecture as a finished object, it highlights collaboration, constraints, adaptation, and the realities that shape buildings over time.

Through close exchange with the nominated offices, extensive material emerged, including post-occupancy reflections, budget constraints, crisis moments, and internal discussions, it’s presented in a dual structure: on the one side, it shows the submitted drawings and photographs; on the other side, it reveals the transition from paper to construction to daily use.

The exhibition by the House of Architecture Graz (HDA), Chamber of Civil Engineers for Styria and Carinthia and State of Styria (Land Steiermark) runs from 25 February to 15 May 2026 at Mariahilferstraße 2, 8020 Graz. The themes will be further explored in the publication "The Prize Bag: Double Lives of Architecture – Architekturjahrbuch Graz Steiermark 2025." A discussion and book presentation will take place on April 29, 2026, at 07:00 PM at Salon Stolz at Theodor-Körner-Straße 67, 8010 Graz. We and our client KAGes – Steiermärkische Krankenanstaltengesellschaft m.b.H. are grateful that the project has been included in this context and we congratulate Architektursalon and su.n -spaceunit network for their winning project Salon Stolz.
