Friday’s special: Brazilian Modernism at its best.

The iconic Costela sofa by Martin Eisler & Carlo Hauner for Forma Brasil.
Its sculptural “ribs” in dark jacaranda wood wrap around a slender metal frame. Costela means “rib” – a name that perfectly captures the organic rhythm and architectural presence of this design.

Born in Vienna, Eisler later became one of the key figures of Brazilian modernism. Together with Hauner, he translated European modernist ideas into a new language shaped by local materials, craftsmanship and climate.

This original 1950s piece has been carefully restored and newly upholstered in a soft bouclé. A statement sofa that sits somewhere between design object and functional sculpture.

This striking vintage vase stands out with its bold colour play: deep red glass embraced by clear and sunny yellow tones. Elegant, confident, and just a little dramatic – exactly our kind of statement.

Whether styled with a single stem or left to shine on its own, it doesn’t need much to make an impact. A perfect piece for those who love colour, character, and something truly different. 🌹

Business up front, party inside.

This compact rosewood sideboard by Marius Byrialsen, produced by Nipu Møbleren in the 1960s, keeps things calm and composed on the outside. Clean lines, elegant tambour doors and slim chrome legs define its timeless Danish design.

Open it up, and a playful surprise awaits. Colourful internal drawers and a cleverly organised pull-out compartment add a joyful twist to this otherwise restrained classic. Proof that Scandinavian modernism knew how to have fun, too.

Love at first light ✨💘
This striking Sputnik chandelier from the 1970s is pure drama in the best possible way. Designed by Gaetano Sciolari, it plays with reflections, movement and sparkle, catching the light from every angle.

Bold, radiant and impossible to ignore. A little bit space age, a little bit disco, and very much a statement.

Some designs feel familiar, yet never lose their impact. 🖤
This early pair of Model 3107 chairs was designed in the 1950s by Arne Jacobsen and produced by Fritz Hansen. Originally introduced in 1955, these examples belong to the earlier production phase, recognisable by their wide metal base caps. Later versions would switch to plastic, making these chairs especially sought after.

With their four-legged aluminium base and softly curved plywood shells, they combine visual lightness with surprising comfort. A design that has shaped interiors for decades and still feels right today.

Two chairs. One iconic idea.

These playful liqueur bowls from the 1960s bring instant joy to the table. Soft greens, warm amber, gentle pinks, cool blues and lilac tones catching the light ✨ Made for small celebrations, spontaneous toasts and evenings that last a little longer than planned.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner 💘 they feel like a lovely excuse to share a drink, clink glasses or simply enjoy something beautiful together. Or, honestly, to keep them all to yourself.

At the end of the month, while planning new content, I came across this photo.
And for a moment, I had to stop.

It made me think about how far Tandlas has come. From something that started as a small hobby with my brother, in the basement of my parents’ house, to a real design business I am deeply proud of today.

So it felt like the right moment to reintroduce myself.

I’m Elli, the founder behind Tandlas. What began as a small, carefully curated selection of vintage pieces has grown into a place where design, craftsmanship and history come together. Every object you see here has been chosen with time, curiosity and a deep respect for material and form.

This new space marks another chapter. And I’m grateful for everyone who has been part of the journey so far.

These Ultima Thule shot glasses bring us back to our very first order shipped to the US. Designed in 1968 by Tapio Wirkkala for Iittala, the series is inspired by melting glaciers and the raw beauty of the Nordic landscape.

The textured surface feels almost organic in the hand, as if shaped by ice and time rather than tools. Sculptural yet functional, these glasses are more than tableware. They are small design objects with a strong presence.

A thoughtful gift, or a quiet statement for those who appreciate Scandinavian glass at its best.
