This week, David Cooke, Terry Boxall, and Sam Wiechula hosted a guided walk-through of Uniting SA's Uniting on Second in Bowden, bringing together key partners and collaborators to experience the project firsthand.

It was fantastic to hear such positive feedback regarding the attention to detail and design, build quality and how a high-quality residential outcome was achieved on a challenging site.

Having started the project in 2023 through an EOI, walking the site offered a powerful reminder of what this project represents. Uniting on Second is more than a housing development, it’s a model for inclusive, mixed-income living that brings together community housing and thoughtful design, to create a genuinely connected urban neighbourhood.

Construction is officially underway at Uniting on Hawker!

Today, City Collective leaders, David Cooke and Terry Boxall, marked the commencement of works on site in Bowden, a significant milestone for a project that will deliver 30 much-needed homes in the heart of our city. Designed by City Collective and delivered in partnership with Uniting SA, Kennett Builders, and SA Housing Trust, this development will provide 24 social housing apartments and 6 affordable homes for vulnerable women aged 55 and over who are experiencing, or at risk of homelessness.

Joined by Premier of South Australia, Hon. Peter Malinauskas, Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Nick Champion MP, and Member for Adelaide, Steve Georganas MP, we celebrated with an early morning coffee on site, acknowledging the collaboration and shared commitment behind this important step forward.

We look forward to seeing Uniting on Hawker take shape and make a lasting impact for those who need it most.

This year marks 10 years of City Collective!

A decade of shaping cities through design, thinking deeply about place, people, and the everyday experiences that make cities work better.

From big ideas to built outcomes, we’ve always believed good design is about people first. We're proud of where we’ve come from, grateful for the partners, clients and friends we've made along the way, and excited for what’s next.

This year will be a celebration of the people and projects that have shaped City Collective since 2016... stay tuned.

Today we honor Dr Martin Luther King Jr., not only his words, but his presence in places where change was demanded.

In 1965, Dr King stood alongside local leaders and community members in Selma following the violence of Bloody Sunday, when peaceful marchers were brutally attacked crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

Following our work on the Downtown Selma Action Plan, we’re mindful that planning is never just about buildings or infrastructure. It’s about understanding history, listening deeply, and shaping places that honor struggle, resilience, and community voice. The legacy of Selma reminds us that public spaces matter, and that who they serve, and how they are shaped, carries lasting meaning.

We’re excited to announce Lakeview at White Oaks, a new master-planned neighborhood reimagining the former Surf Coaster USA site in Laconia, New Hampshire.

The 11-acre site is being transformed into a walkable, lake-oriented community that strengthens connections between downtown Laconia, Weirs Beach, and the surrounding areas.

The vision for Lakeview at White Oaks draws from New Hampshire’s lakefront character, with architecture, materials, and outdoor living spaces oriented to the landscape, while creating a continuous public trail that links the site into the broader city and waterfront. The plan proposes approximately 150 residential units, designed to support a vibrant, connected neighborhood.

We’re looking forward to continuing work with Edgewater Development Group and the City of Laconia as the project advances.

What kind of housing generates the most community good?

For the Selma Downtown Action Plan, we consulted with the people of Selma, undertaking a simple yet effective exercise involving a spectrum of typologies, ranging from low to high density, directly relating them to civic assets and amenities.

🎥 Watch to see how the people of Selma informed us on the housing that they wanted.

Hear from Blake Reeves, as he discusses design choices rooted in the study of Urban Anthropology.

What is Urban Anthropology?

- How people actually live, move, gather, and express themselves in cities

- Paying attention to rituals, symbols, and patterns that give a place its soul

- Asking how the built environment can support those patterns.

Learn how City Collective considers Urban Anthropology when making design decisions.
