We do not know what tomorrow will bring.
I'm so saddened to hear of Kerry Collins passing.
Kerry was my ceramics teacher when I arrived in Darwin in 2001.
I didn't even know what ceramics was. I had seen a friend's ceramic panther and thought yes I want to try my hand at this. After just one class I was keen for more.
Kerry was warm, funny with a beautiful energy her business offered a welcoming start to art for me.
Kerry taught me brush strokes, different mediums, air brushing and so much more she encouraged me to explore different types of pieces and paints.
The jug was always on.
A coffee even in the Coconut Grove
hot shed was enjoyable with her and the "Kerrys Ceramics" students.
When Kerry closed her business I missed this social artist circle so much that I opened my own studio, Palmerston Hobby Ceramics.
I modelled my own business mission around the welcoming approach she offered her students.
My idea was to encourage a building of connection under the safe umbrella of art with a coffee in hand.
Kerry you are a Darwin icon, you have lived your life wholeheartedly the NT will miss you.
My deepest condolences to your family.
