After 37 wonderful years in interior design—33 of them at the helm of Gradwell Design—I have decided the time has come to retire.

Throughout my career, I have been guided by the belief that "your environment matters," and it has been an incredible privilege to help shape yours. To my clients, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your trust and partnership over the decades; you have truly been the heart of my business.

I also want to extend a sincere thank you to the talented tradesmen and dedicated suppliers I’ve worked with. Your skill and commitment were essential in bringing my designs to life and ensuring every project was a success.

Most importantly, I want to thank my family. This journey would not have been possible without your constant love and support through every milestone.

I wish you all continued prosperity and inspiration in your future endeavors. Thank you for being a part of this unforgettable journey.

When you visit your joiner to get a quote be prepared for some challenging questions, this is where good design can be very helpful where time is money.

In what order do you plan a kitchen?
The very first thing is prepared yourself mentally for this process for it is a lot to think about and many decisions must be made.
Step 1 – Measure your space.
Step 2 – Budget – how much are you prepare to spend.
Step 2 - Draw up a floor plan – L- shape, U-shape, G-shape, one wall or gallery.
Step 3 - Decide on your kitchen style! Contemporary, country, industrial, modern, hamptons, French, coastal or colonial. (the list goes on)
Step 4 - The key to a successful kitchen is to perfect the work triangle. The working path between the fridge, sink and cooktop.
Step 5 – Select your appliances to strike the balance between style and function.
Step 6 – Think hardware like taps, cabinet handles, drawer k***s and hinges.
Step 7 – Finishes can make a statement like brass, brushed nickel or matt black. If you have a small budget and not the lifestyle (dirty little fingerprints to clean) stick to chrome.
Step 8 – Materials are the workhorses in the kitchen specially the bench top it should be easy to maintain and have these qualities like water resistance, stain resistance, etch resistance and must be durable.
Step 9 – Design to get the most out of your kitchen space, your must haves, nice to haves. The fine line between just okay and good design.

As they say the kitchen is the HEART of the home, so have fun in creating that beautiful space for you to cook up a storm for your family and friends.
