lt. We are proud to be Australia’s home of Emma Bridgewater pottery, with the most extensive range of this much-loved British brand. Our collection also includes fine wool throws and scarves from Bronte by Moon, a Yorkshire mill weaving since 1837; exquisite linens from Tessitura Toscana Telerie in Florence; and hand-thrown pottery by Jane Hogben in Buckinghamshire. Our partnerships extend to heritage makers such as Rathbornes of Dublin, hand-pouring beeswax candles since 1488, and to newer artisans like The Humble Hare & Friends, creators of striking handmade marble platters in Great Britain. While we love sharing the rich histories behind our brands, it is the quality of our products that truly sets us apart. Every item is personally hand-selected to reflect the craftsmanship, tradition, and style that define Finch & Lane.

Tulip season has arrived in Australia - in gardens, at festivals and, rather cheerfully, around the table.

Emma Bridgewater’s new Tulip Border plates, mugs, jugs and bowls are decorated by hand, each with the small variations that make it distinctly its own.

Like the flowers they celebrate, these tulips have been lovingly hand-reared - although they should last considerably longer.

Cute, charming and surprisingly belligerent.

The Robin Redbreast is Britain’s best-loved bird and can be seen throughout the UK all year round. It is particularly noticeable during winter, when it ventures boldly into gardens in search of food.

In fact, the robin has twice been chosen by the British public as its unofficial national bird; first in a Times readers’ vote in the 1960s, and again in a 2015 poll organised by birdwatcher David Lindo.

Males and females look almost identical, both sporting that famous orange-red breast. Young robins, however, lack the red colouring and instead have spotted, golden-brown feathers.

But don’t let their cheerful garden visits and Christmas-card image fool you. Robins are fiercely territorial and will aggressively defend their patch from intruders.

They also sing for most of the year, and beneath streetlights, they may continue well into the night.

Small, tuneful and always ready for a boundary dispute. No wonder Britain loves them.

Staying with Italian pottery, more new designs have just arrived that will bring the warmth of an Italian summer to your table.

Handcrafted in Italy, the Frutti d’Italia collection of olive oil cruets captures the spirit of sun-drenched gardens and long, unhurried lunches beneath the olive trees.

Designed for your finest olive oil, it evokes the season of salads, ripe produce, and the unmistakable scent of summer. Every piece is unique, made by Italian artisans whose craft carries generations of tradition - a touch of Mediterranean ease for the contemporary table.

Now it’s getting interesting…

This is the time of year when our sea shipments start to arrive. Some have taken as long as six months to make - because the pieces we choose are made by hand, not mass-produced - followed by another three months at sea.

The first arrived this week: our once-a-year delivery from Piero Borgioli in Florence, always a favourite with our customers.

Now in store and online.

Handmade. Hand-painted. Because that’s the point, isn’t it?

These are Teste di Moro - Sicily’s distinctive ceramic Moor’s Heads, traditionally displayed in pairs, although sold individually.

Their story is entwined with an old Sicilian legend of love, betrayal and revenge, while their place in the island’s homes and gardens has endured for generations.

Handmade and hand-decorated in Sicily, every face has its own character and expression.

Imported by Finch & Lane and now available in store and online.

It’s winter, and sometimes our minds wander…

What would Finch & Lane look like if we packed up and moved to the Cotswolds? Naturally, we would need a cosy semi-detached cottage next door to live in - purely for practical reasons, of course.

The important question is: would you visit us?

And should tea on arrival be compulsory?

Just a little AI-assisted midwinter daydream from one of our team. No, we’re not moving to England; it’s far too hot there at the moment.

A little French charm for the kitchen, the garden, and the rituals that make a house feel lived in. Handmade near Bordeaux, now available at Finch & Lane - instore or online.

There are throws, and then there are proper wool throws.

Our Pastel Blockcheck Throw in Eucalyptus is woven in Leeds, UK from 100% Merino wool – it is soft, warm, breathable, and beautifully made. The soft eucalyptus and ivory check give it a calm, fresh feel, while the generous 185 x 140cm size makes it just right for winter evenings on the sofa, an extra layer on the bed, or a quiet cuppa by the fire.

This message was brought to you in the middle of winter!

One of the joys of importing beautiful things from the UK and Europe is that, every now and then, we’re reminded just how far away Australia really is.

A lovely new supplier in Italy recently wrote to ask how our first shipment had been received (stunning product). It made me smile because the product was viewed with the supplier last September, the order was placed in January, it was made by hand, and finally shipped by sea in May…it will arrive here in late July.

And for us, that’s normal.

Some orders arriving later this year were ordered back in November and won’t be with us until September or even October! That’s what it's like for us, long lead times, sea freight, customs, patience, and then, eventually, the pleasure of opening boxes full of things we’ve been waiting months to see.

I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I’m used to it, but I still love it when our suppliers are surprised by how long it takes us to reach them.

I must ask David to finally fix our anti-matter transporter - it would make purchasing much easier.

Now, can you guess what’s coming?

Our next shipment from Jane Hogben is now being readied for collection in Buckinghamshire, England.

These pieces are not factory-made, not outsourced, nor mass-produced. Each one begins on Jane’s wheel, thrown by hand in the traditional way, before being individually decorated by Jane herself. The small variations are part of the point. The shape, the brushwork, the quiet irregularities - they are the evidence of the maker’s hand, not something to be edited out on a production line.

Handmade in England. A small shipment, made slowly, and worth waiting for.
