As a husband-and-wife team, Stephanie and David are hands-on in every aspect of the business, committed to offering good old-fashioned, personalised service. Our collection also includes fine wool throws and scarves from Bronte by Moon, a Yorkshire mill weaving since 1837; exquisite linens from Tessitura Toscana Telerie in Florence; and hand-thrown pottery by Jane Hogben in Buckinghamshire. Our partnerships extend to heritage makers such as Rathbornes of Dublin, hand-pouring beeswax candles since 1488, and to newer artisans like The Humble Hare & Friends, creators of striking handmade marble platters in Great Britain. While we love sharing the rich histories behind our brands, it is the quality of our products that truly sets us apart. Ever wondered why a witch’s cat is called a “familiar”? 🐈‍⬛

In folklore, a familiar was a supernatural companion believed to help a witch with her magical work. The name comes from the Latin 'familiaris', meaning “of the household”.

Familiars weren’t always cats. They could appear as dogs, birds or even toads. But black cats have rather cornered the Halloween market. But not every cat is a familiar - technically, the title goes to the devoted helper.

Although if you’ve ever lived with a cat, you’ll know there’s some disagreement about who serves whom.

It’s not always about what’s on our shelves…sometimes it’s about what’s on the other side of the world.

As October brings longer days and spring gardens here, our friends across Britain and Ireland are pulling on an extra layer and watching autumn settle in.

A country lane, an old stone bridge, a castle beside a loch… just a few of the terribly ordinary sights they have to put up with on an autumn walk. We do feel for them.

Then comes the rather lovely business of drawing the curtains, putting the kettle on and settling in for the evening. Yes, we really do feel for them...

We’re very happy to welcome spring. But we’re allowed a little autumn envy.

A little mischief before Christmas… 🎃🐈‍⬛

Halloween and Bonfire Night (Guy Fawkes) conjure up chilly evenings, autumn leaves and gathering around a fire. Here in Australia, we put a slightly different spin on things: spring evenings, longer days and a good excuse for a party after winter!

Halloween has certainly found a home here, with children and adults alike enjoying an excuse to dress up, decorate and indulge in a little harmless spookiness.

Emma Bridgewater has captured the fun beautifully this season: witches on broomsticks, woodland friends gathered around a bonfire, and black cats keeping watch. A witch’s familiar is never far away… particularly when there’s a good brew involved. 🧙‍♀️

A little thing to get excited about: we’ve never had gravy jugs from Emma Bridgewater before, and now we have two!

Choose from classic Black Toast or festive Rosehip & Ivy, each with its own matching saucer to catch those inevitable drips. With a generous 420ml capacity, they’re ready for everything from the Sunday roast to Christmas dinner.

A little more Jane Hogben news before the weekend is out 🌿

Our third post this weekend - I hope you’ll forgive the extra appearance in your feed! We’ve been busy photographing and adding more than 110 designs to the website, none of which have been available on our website before. Plenty of lovely British-made pottery to browse over a cuppa.

For those waiting for the pet bowls and vases, we haven’t forgotten you! We simply ran out of time, but hope to photograph and add these during the week.

If you missed this morning’s post, perhaps take a moment to read it, meet Jane and see the traditional skills behind her pottery. Each piece is made by hand, with all the care and character that comes with it.

The look can be imitated. The craftsmanship is another matter.

Jane Hogben Pottery is handmade in Buckinghamshire, England, using traditional pottery methods. Each piece is thrown on a wheel. Every raised decorative detail - known as a sprig - is made by hand, applied by hand, and then painted by Jane herself.

There are hours of skilled work behind these pieces, and a person whose name belongs on the pottery she creates.

As more mass-produced lookalikes appear, we think that distinction deserves to be made. A familiar shape or decoration tells you very little about how something was made, where it came from, or whose skills your purchase supports.

It is a privilege to bring Jane’s pottery to Australia. We are proud to support a British maker keeping traditional skills alive at a time when so much is being made faster, cheaper and in ever greater quantities.

For us, the small variations, the brushstrokes and the evidence of a maker’s hand are all part of the pleasure of owning her work.

When you choose a piece for your home, its story matters too. Jane’s begins at a potter’s wheel in Buckinghamshire.

And with that, we are pleased to say the last shipment for 2026 has just arrived - in-store and online...
